Nice!

The PO wasn't shy with bolt-ons! The silver lining was that one of those clamped down on your Serial Data Plate so it couldn't go missing.

Not sure where the axle pads came from..... maybe some heavy loads in the past. Is the floor wavy?

When you have time and can read the full serial number, contact Art to get your trailer added to the database!

Congratulations!

Thanks Rus.
I’ll post the full number once I get it revealed. The floor seems to be pretty typical trailer floor to me. Beat up but solid.
Any idea on year? Is it a ‘47?

Not real sure. That serial number will really help. All the other parts: casting, A frame slant vs. V, solid spring hanger brackets seems to put it near '47 but there are overlaps. The best thing to help sandwich your trailer in where it fits is that serial number. I'm only guessing but with what you've documented so far (items noted above), it most likely isn't 3 digits. So, from what's loaded so far it can only be 4 digits or 5 digits.

The axle attachment is new to me.

Sand very carefully under the tailgate across the rear of the frame/tub. Looking for "Bantam" - right where that trailer hitch is bolted on - (I could actually see mine before sanding under multiple layers of paint using a very low angle light beam).

There's a lot of information buried in the CJ2A Forum in the Bantam Trailer Section.

I don't believe I've ever seen that axle tube mounting arrangement before. I don't know that much about early T3C trailers but I do know the early tubs were WWII leftovers. Perhaps that would explain the stake pockets being bolted in?

Nice score! I look forward to you progress photos and documentation.

The pic of the tire RIMS is a clue to the axle...neither are original to a T3-C.

I believe you will find the serial number is #213XX and as such, it is a 1947 year.
Using 213xx as the serial number, look at the spreadsheet of the features of these trailers. Note that it has the FLAT panels on the rear, not the TUBE style supports. Also, the design of he drawbar bracket changed...one has a FLAT top and one has a rectangular HOLE in the top.

Examples of the drawbar brackets:
1st style: #1259 has the rectangular HOLE in the top of the DBB
2nd style: #10270 has NO HOLE but has a bent steel front on the DBB
3rd style: #15844 ha NO HOLE and a solid cast front on the DBB

Your DBB is the 3rd style and therefore has a FIVE DIGIT SERIAL NUMBER!

Quick ID on this trailer?

Post by donk_316 » Wed Aug 12, 2020 11:48 am

Hey Chuck,
Just stopped for a snack and saw your message.
My first thought were it has Cj rims on it
Image
But they aren’t CJ.
Pretty sure the axle has been changed? I’m hoping that my combats still bolt up

The trailer came with 4 rims, one of each is bolted onto the trailer

Those hubs are definitively from somewhere else. The hubs, nuts, bearings, etc. should all be the same as jeeps and mil trailers. So where it came from will be a mystery to figure out.

Chuck's info is spot on - I felt the same but was hesitant to say until you could uncover the number. When Art took over the database, he started cataloging differences (there were a few of them), and asking for feedback, we started seeing a pattern on dating. So far, no one's been able to produce factory paperwork so this database is our best source of info right now.

6 lugs is one too many. serial number will be the answer. I thought I had a 46 but it had a very faint stamped number for 5 digits and moved me to 47. Does look like original hitch if it 1 7/8"
