New purchase - M100 trailer s/n 9177 year unknown???

Post by onaway » Mon Jul 15, 2019 2:48 pm

Hello,

I just purchased a Dunbar Kapple M100 trailer S/N 9177 that came out of Missouri at some point according to the seller. I can't read the delivery date but looks like a 2 is in the box.

Does anyone have a trailer that is close to that number and can provide me a year?

There is no database for M100 trailers, is there any value or interest in starting one?

Tim

Hello Tim,

Sound like a nice purchase ! Hopefully someone has some info for you.

You bring up a great idea, I would be interested in an M-100 trailer data base !

I do have an Strick M-100 trailer that we got years back from the Drmo in Orlando, Fl.
It was in great shape. I plan to restore with its original markings soon.
The Navy had it, but it has markings under the light blue paint repaint, that it was with
the 45th Infantry Division.
Many people have M-100 trailers, and they are great Jeep trailers !!
They were in service while MB's and GPW's were still in the military, and used with M-38 and M38A1 jeeps, and maybe the M151 jeeps.

I think a data base of owners with their data plate info would be a very good thing :D :D :D

What do we need to do to get it started ?

Best Regards,
Ray

Hi Ray,

I am game to help create and maintain one. I just need to do some more investigation to see what details we want to include. Once we establish a criteria of what we want to include I can start a new thread and start taking data plate photos and load them.

Would we want to capture original unit markings? I know my trailer has two sets of numbers depending upon which layer of paint you are looking at.

Feel free to add any details to the few I have included below.

1. Manufacturer
2. Serial Number
3. Delivery Date
4. Contract Number
5. ?
6.
7.

Hello,

Onaway,

I would say we should have a data base right here on the G503
for the M-100 trailers. Maybe mjeeps could share their database trailer info here for the new G list, from their site, spread the knowledge around.

Your list of data points look good :D

I would say go forward with it, and members here would be happy to add their M100
trailer information, along with an optional picture of their trailer, un-restored or restored.

It will help put information at our disposal right here on the G, and would become a beneficial knowledge base to help G members identify and restore their great M100 trailers.

Best Regards,
Ray
