42 mbt
I have a 42 mbt. Lights are bolted, 10 leaves in springs.
Rivets in shock mounts, cotter pins in shock pivots. No data tag. Acm# 19910W.
https://youtu.be/MKADqK89vWY
Sad, there is no OD paint under the black and red oxide.

Lew:
Congratulations on acquiring a beautiful local MBT trailer! It's wonderfully straight and complete, an excellent buy.
An uninformed guess, but the 4 holes in the combat wheels might be for attaching a circular reinforcement plate to the inside of the combat wheel for use on a Converto 1/2-ton dump trailer. Circular reinforcement plates increased combat wheel strength for the heavier loads hauled in Converto dump trailers, but I don't know how those reinforcement plates were attached to combat wheels. So look deeper into that possibility. Again, congratulations on a superb purchase! It looks like a very fun project.

Re: 42 mbt
Yes, I got this from Mike. He grabbed it from another Colorado fella.
Fred, Yes, the holes look hand drilled. Neat job but you can see the drill marks. I will inspect the inside face when I break the wheels down. I have a few body holes to weld up. Sand blast and paint. I would like to mark it for 9th ID, 39thIR. Need pictures of one.

That's a nice trailer! It has all the expensive parts on it and it looks like it needs only minor work for a restoration. Enjoy !

Re: 42 mbt
Very lucky find! Very similar to my 42 mbt, but I had a tailgate cut out that needed to be repaired. It’d be hard to do better than that one.

Re: 42 mbt
What about the axle? Does it have a cast center section?

Yes, cast center.
Are the springs the same as used on the mb?

Hello Lew
Just wanted to say you have a very original looking mbt. Good luck with that.

I'm surprised that Chuck hasn't weighed in with a DOD estimate. Based on the ACM & S/N of my Oct '42 MBT (ACM 13092, S/N 10968), the S/N of my Dec '42 MBT (15799), your ACM (ACM 19910W) and what looks like bolted on tail light brackets your's is probably from Dec '42

Re: 42 mbt
Lew....
I don't know how I missed this one either....but I do have some of your info listed in my data base...
Can you confirm:
1) 8 - leaf springs like an MB?
2) taillight brackets are BOLTED to the frame, not WELDED?
Otherwise a decent estimate for your missing info as follows:
Willys MBT
Serial Number...…..13888
DOD...…………………..11/42
USA Number...……..0215579
Feel free to contact me when your resto is about complete to see if anyone with an ACM number close to yours has volunteered to post pics of the ACM number and Serial Number on the plate (still attached with original rivets) and a partial or complete USA Number. I can then apply that to the data base and perhaps improve the estimates above for you.
PS....that landing leg pivot in the bed is the correct one for the WWII trailer...if the one mounted on it now has TWO holes (up and down) then replace that one with the one in the tub which has THREE holes (up. down and halfway).
Nice trailer though, the waves in the bed are probably less of an issue than most we see so I would not fret too much about that!

Chuck,
In his original post Lew said 10 leaves. I'm going to have to find the ACM number on my Dec '42 trailer

Re: 42 mbt
Oh yeah….those four holes in the outer area are NOT for the reinforced centers that the Convertos required. Note in this photo that there is a smaller donut that fits right under the lugnuts...
