Fruehauf T1
I came across this T1 that a guy is interested in selling. I'm not looking to dump a bunch of money into anything right now, so I'm hoping that being from one of the less common manufactures doesn't drive the price out of my reach. What is a fair value for this?
It currently has a ball hitch welded on to the stub of a lunnet shaft, but he also has the original lunnet which can be re-installed without welding. Off the trailer he has new in the box repop 16" rims (not Combat). It also has the original chains
S/N KC 27824
DOD 5/26/1945 The back is bowed out a little and the seam between floor and back has a tear. Owner said the previous owner did this to drain out water. If true, he was oblivious to the drain plug being right there. I know Chuck likes the bottom view, so here is that too. Cheers, Doug

Re: Fruehauf T1
Doug....
Since this is only the 4th Fruehauf in my data base....It is a rare bird...only 975 were produced! I believe it will be a SMOOTH axle tube and BOLTED on upper shock mounts and the top and bottom shock mounts will the THREADED. I think I can make out TEN leaves in the springs.
Between yours and the others, the DODs run from May to June, 1945. I would really like to know what the ACM number is on that trailer as you know!
As far as a purchase price if one ignores the pedigree on it...given the seams are split, it needs some work to it. Maybe it can be coaxed back into position and welded and turn out to be a factory looking resto and maybe it has additional weak spots in the floor that mean the tub comes off the frame and a new floor is installed. That is a whole next level of work/costs. The lunette isn't cheap either!
If I was at the Petaluma or Tower Park jeep meets....I think the range of realistic prices might be from $800.00 to $1,200....pending a better close-up assessment of it that pictures can't do.
Right now I think the market for restored G529s is between $2,500 and a little over $3,000. You have to do the math on them...cost, parts, time, etc to bring one back from this condition to a real eye-turner!
Again...if you buy it, get me that ACM number, OK?

Re: Fruehauf T1
Nice trailer. One thing to look at. I noticed that the driver side fender does not look like an original. It looks like a generic trailer fender going by the mount hole at the rear. The fender should be bolted to L-brackets welded to the body sides. Check the passenger side also. In my opinion, this affects price.

Re: Fruehauf T1
Chuck - He said he has the original lunnete. It looks like they flipped whatever you call the thing that holds the lunnete in order to get the hitch down lower. Looks trivial to unbolt it and flip it back the correct direction. Landing leg flips straight up right now
cjv-35 - yes, good eye. Something about the fender seemed off, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Not that my finger is all that accurate anyway.
He is the 2nd owner. His wife's uncle being the original owner. All he knows is that it originated in the bay area.
I should also mention that it comes with a bill of sale only.
Thanks for your input guys.
Cheers, Doug

Re: Fruehauf T1
Doug....of the four Fruehaufs in my data base, I have never gotten an ACM number from any of them. This may be because Fruehauf, being in the trailer business did not order the assembly from ACM. If in fact they did fabricate the assembly themselves...there might not be an ACM number on the gusset or on the front lip of the tub.
Based on what I see here, it would be better to start in the $500 to $800 range as there is still a question about any rust-outs in the tub floor.

Re: Fruehauf T1
This post is a learning curve. I thought only Bantam and Willys made the trailers for WW2. Fruehauf trailers are used a lot in the U.K. these days on the heavy goods trucks, they seem to be a large well established company.

Re: Fruehauf T1
Greg: you might want to check those photos posted here on the gee....while most are WWII, some are WWI and many are VN as well...I seem to remember that in there somewhere were a few pics of trailers attached to jeeps, that would be a good start.
Mark: Quite a few companies made them in 1945. I can only assume that with the approaching invasion of Japan at hand scheduled for late 1945 into 1946, and the fact that Willys stopped making them in early 1944, there were many contracts let out to US mfgers to produce the G529.
