Here is the breakdown of trailers with ACM numbers in my data base:
Bantam
Willys
Gemco
Transportation Equipment Co.
Checker Cab
Adam Black
Pacific Fabricating Co.
Converto (T6 model, no tailgate)

I have either no examples with an ACM number or the owners did not give me and ACM number information..... so maybe they did have ACM assemblies with ACM numbers because they made so few of them...
Fruehauf (975 produced)
Springfield Auto Works (850 produced)
Strick (518 produced)
Utility Trailer Co. (492 produced)

The wild card in this is you are in Europe...where post war copies were made and spare parts were available. I am not that knowledgable about those various designs to confirm this might be one of them.

Hi all,

Got the tub and frame sandblasted.
This allows me to weld the frame and tub together so I can do a 2nd round of primer and after that OD.

I found 1 number on the tub.
Left front frame bracket is stamped with K409.

Thanks for looking
Frank

Painting and assembly has started.

It's back on it's axle now to be continued.

The trailer is now assembled, and only electricals to be done.
I need to check what I did on my Willys to make it fit each other....
After that, some parts need a respray.

I know definately the hooks of the chains are not correct.
Rims and tires will be changed later when I get hold of some splitrims.
The oval reflectors is a long story, but that is what I had available.

as during last time, I bought a canvas cover for the trailer and put some marking on it.

As it is still not identified, I like to put a very late 1945 USA number on it.
If somebody can help with that?

Stars amd markings are done.
I also got a set of aluminium split rims, which I will use instead of the closed rims which are on it now.

Beautiful job on the restoration, Frank! Also very interesting reading on the research for the Trailer's origin!

thanks a lot!

@ Chuck, can you assist in a late war (1945) USA number, and a picture of the best style to use?
I have seen a difference in Willys / Bantam / Checker.

Thanks

Since Willys stopped making the 1/4 ton G529s in March 1944, it can't be one if you desire a late war version so let's go with a Bantam designation for want of any other information telling us who really made the trailer. I am of the opinion it is a US made trailer but it could have been overhauled in Japan prior to the Korean War and then sent to Norway and then sold off and you bought it after one or more persons had it.

I have seen the Norway trailer often had no original data plates so a "TEC" copy was used on an original trailer. However the lack of an ACM number makes any kind of further identification impossible at this time.

So...we'll make up some information to use on your trailer as a "late war" example as you requested:

Bantam
Serial Number......63866
DOD...………………...3/8/45
USA Number...…...0839779

Roger de Ruyter (dataplates4you) will know what font and how to space the letters/numbers on the data plate. You can restore the rebuild tag if you wish and install it....I myself would not though.
As far as what kind of markings on the trailer goes, I would go with a 10" star on each side and on the rear with the USA number below it. An stencil you can find in Europe that matches any of the different kinds we see in WWII pics would be fine as those were painted on in the field. No need for a blue drab number, use white paint on 3" tall letters/numbers.

Hope that works for you Frank!

Thanks for that Chuck!
I have 1 but....
As we are pretty sure it is no bantam, I like to put the USA number (in white) on it of one of the brands from which you do not have a ACM registered (eg. Fruehauf / Springfield / etc).
You have such a number (I have seen eg. Checker starts with 01xxxxx instead of 08xxxxx).

The white starts are already on it in 10" size and can be seen on one of the previous pics.

Frank....you might want to check with Robert de Ruyter to see what other G529 trailer data plates he makes. No sense in conjuring up numbers for a mfger that does not currently have quality repop data plates available. Why not check with Robert and then let me know what mfgers he has plates for and you can choose one of them and I can come up with acceptable stampings for it and a USA number that would be in line with that mfger and DOD.

Hi all,

I asked lt. horne to make me some data plates, but after his initial reply, I can't get hold of him any more.
I don't like to do this via here...but since I can't get contact, does anybody have had contact with him recently?

Might be that he is very busy? But I'm already waiting for a long time on a reply from him.

thanks
