The 229th may have used misc brake shoe, clutch facing, etc., brass rivets. It is common to encounter brake shoe rivets on many of the depot rebuild M-38 and M-38A1 Data Plates. These rivets were inexpensive and readily available.

After a half year of work break, I had the time to work on my trailer projekt agian, that turns out as a bantam T-3 trailer, with the frame Numer 88223.

After cleaning all the screws I found out, that 90% where BC marked (not E.C.), one was E.C. the others where not marked at all or metric replacement screws. All the PAL nuts where still in place.
The upper shock mounts where screwed to the frame and Bantam style, one of the lower was Willys.
The axle has a weld seam in the middle, the brake backing plates are Bendix brand and three of the four brake shoes too.

Now I´m working on the combat wheels. My question is, wich tire brand was OEM to a Bantam trailer Firestone or Goodyear?

Here are some pictures of the work progress.

Last year I removed the frame from the body and cut out the bottom.

Sven...have you considered finding some brake drums for your trailer that are used and probalby close to or visibly too WORN to use safely on a jeep to put on it? Most trailers show up with drums with little or no wear that have never been turned down by a brake shop. Those would be excellent drums to use on a Willys front axel! You can probably find some that are worn and the action of the handbrake on otherwise "worn out" drums is still good...I put "worn out" drums on my trailer and kept the excellent ones it came with for another project!

Your restoration is coming along really well...can't wait to see pics of your restoration on the tub and the tub floor.

Svenn, I love your way of working! That is the way how we Italians imagine the German restorers at work!
Did I ever send you a reprint of the SNL G-529 ?
Just let me know, if I did not.

Sven....contact me by email....right now your Bantam looks to be a LATE 1943 DOD...

By the way....your TEC data plate does appear to be a copy!

I'm not sure what tires would have been in use in late 1943 on a Bantam...if it was a Willys, I would suggest whatever tire the MB guys think would be correct for a late 1953 MB...The late 1943 Bantam is unknown to me for tire suppliers though.

What pics do you have that show Firestone and Goodyear on trailers?

Wow Sven, very nice resto photo's... I have also a TEC trailer... It needs to be put together. I have also removed all parts, removed the frame... so everything is sandblasted and painted very well... but I have no time yet to put it together. I will check for my numbers, but I am sure Chuck already got them.
Here is an image of another TEC nomenclature found on the internet

Hi Chuck,

I don´t have collected the fotos. I saw them by browsing through the web and books.

For example the pics of the trailer from Jons site http://jeepdraw.com/

Tires with the more rounded Firestone tire tread pattern:

Here is the TM example with the more sharp pointed Goadyear tire tread pattern:

What happened to the bumper of the last image? :?

By the way, I checked the ACM number on my TEC chassis and it is 69392 together with the 229th nomenclature (same date range as mentioned in previous posts). It has an empty nomenclature. I got the trailer from Wildenberg and it had CM numbers on it, but I think that was not original. I have replaced the floor and the lower front section since it was rotten.

So Chuck... is that a correct number for a TEC trailer? Or is it a Bantam/MB-T ?

Look at Jeep Draw. Jon is asking for more Info about this.

Note: In the TM Trailer Photo above right, the Trailer is missing the rear cross member.
This may have only happened in the first batch of trailers made by Willys. If you have such a trailer, please contact me.

1) the very first MB-Ts had NO rear crossmember on them....all Bantam's did.
2) of the TEN Trans. Eq. Co. trailers in my data base....only THREE owners have thusfar reported the ACM numbers...121xxx, 141xxx, 149xxx.
3) a trailer with a 66332 (with Bantam characteristics) would be an August 1943 Bantam and no TECs were produced until 1945.
4) the photo of a "Bantam" in Australia with "Goodyears" on them may very well be correct if in fact that is a Bantam in the photo.
5) the photo in the TM with "Firestones" is probably an MB-T (even if it is in the Bantam TM 10-1281)
6) as we are seeing....there appear to be some replacement TEC data plates that are found on other trailer mfgers tubs....so comparison to a REAL one is probably a good idea.
