Re: MBT/M100/M416 comparison
Hi,
Here In an other g503.com thread "M416 Lunette and Casting for trade" I have noticed two things that I don't understand :
"M100 and the M416 use the exact same thick shaft Lunette", and
"The M100 Lunette is much more narrow than the M416 Lunette"
So are they the same or not ? , as for instance Midwest sell repro M100/M416 Lunette without any difference...
(I have this "incorrect" Lunette on the Bantam I just bought, that I would to swap to a correct wwii lunette, but I have to figure out what I have first..., picture unavailable yet but as far as I can remember the shaft is as big as the ring.
Thanks in advance,
Alex.

Re: MBT/M100/M416 comparison
Early 1951 dated M-100's did have the WWII "thin neck" Lunettes from the factory (and no, it does not show in any of the SNL G-747 manuals) . The ORD 7328311 "thick neck" Lunette was installed on later M-100's and all M-416's.

Look for a number that is forged onto the shaft.

I believe that some of the first M100s used the THIN lunettes found on T3s and MBTs as Joel correctly stated!

Re: MBT/M100/M416 comparison
Hello,
I have measured the shaft and the diameter is about 4,3 cm.
And yes indeed there is a very faint marking, something like AB6370 WO or AE6370 WD (?)...
Best regards,
Alex

Re: MBT/M100/M416 comparison
The AE6370 lunette is the same thin shaft style used on WWII MBTs. It was also used on EARLY (first contract) M100s as Joel correctly reported.

Hi Chuck,
Thank you for your help, I will post a picture of the lunette, but the marking I reported is on the (big) shaft and not the thin one I have on my 1942 MBT.
Regards,
Alex

Re: MBT/M100/M416 comparison
I had to move my Converto Dump trailer project recently. It needs a lunette because the old farmer had welded two 1" steel plates,
with the thick lunette sandwiched between. And when I say he welded it, he must've used five or six rods on this mess. So, needing
to move the Converto, I used the lunette from my M416. I had noted that this works in a pinch, but the tapered face of the 416 lunette
doesn't fit all the way inside the "receiver cone" of the Converto, revealing about 1/4" of the tapered part. So I wouldn't recommend
interchanging either as a permanent fixture.

Here's the amazing farmer's lunette with the welded plates. And the M416 lunette mounted on the Converto Dump trailer.

Not sure what's going on there, but the images show on my view. Don't know what to do to improve that.

Yes, the M100 and MBT are dimensionally the same and attach the same (stitch welded).Frank USMC wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 1:02 pmHope some one can help so I can not make an expensive mistake....

The M416 box bolts on, the MBT and M100 are stitch welded.
