And one will note that the various size cargo trailers available for the other wheeled vehicles have a wheel tread dimension compatible to the towing vehicle.

Re: MBT/M100/M416 comparison
Did the MBT have combat wheels exactly like the Jeeps had ?? Were they reinforced ?? Or what kind of wheels?? Picture would be great.

Re: MBT/M100/M416 comparison
All WWII 1/4 ton trailers had combat wheels just like the jeep. The only reinforced combat wheels were used on the Converto Airborne dump trailer.

Re: MBT/M100/M416 comparison
I just bought a 416 that had been sitting in a shed (read, dusty but stored indoors) for 15 years, for $250. It has a gas can mount on the front, and three on the rear.I once read that the reason they made the 416 three inches wider is because it would allow one more jerry can to fit width wise. Is this true? I have a M416 and M100 but never actually tried it.
And yep, wheels are the same width apart as my M151A2.
I'm afraid I've reached that stage in life where I prefer a pedantic evening at home to a bracing exchange of gunfire in the dark.

Re: MBT/M100/M416 comparison
In looking at the comparisons, I didn't see this spec. In reference to the axles, I know the MBTs have a free floating axle, but is the axle the same width as that on a M416?

The M416 Lunette casting will indeed work on a WWII Bantam trailer. Here are some photos of mine. The nice thing about the M416 casting is there are two positions for heigth adjustment.

Here is a shot of the drawbar braces installed on the WWII Bantam trailer. I still need to install the new brake cable and put the parking brake handle back on.

Re: MBT/M100/M416 comparison
I recently brought home a couple of M100 trailers. I was moving my trailers around for yard maintenance. I used the M416 lunette to move the M100 trailers. It fit the yoke just fine.

The M416 wheels will not fit on a M100 for your info. unless the center is modified. I know I have 2 M416s and 2 M100s. I tried to bring a newly bought M100 home last week that had shot tires. I thought I would just throw some M151 wheels on... the same as m416 but the center was 2 small for the hub center.

I wonder if the axles will interchange?

My M100 is currently at the sandblaster. Once back home I may have to conduct some more experimentation.

Re: MBT/M100/M416 comparison
The MBT T3 wheels I think will fit the M416, but I can tell you for a fact the M151 wheels will not fit the M100 unless the center bore has been modified. I have bought 2 M100s and one M416 in the last few month. When I took an M416 , m151 wheel and tire to get the one M100 home the wheel would not fit.BlitzAttack wrote:What about the wheels? No they won't. M416 wheels center on the hub itself while the M100 wheel, like the MBT/T3/MB/GPW, center on the lug nut's taper. The center size is different. The M416 uses washered lug nuts and the M100 uses tapered lug nuts.
