help me identify this cable?

Post by mboardman » Tue Mar 28, 2023 3:13 pm

I believe this is a trailer-related cable - see pic - ends are marked Warner Electric Brake Mfg, Beloit WI cable is same on both ends plugs, both female I guess. About 7 feet long. Found in a bunch of surplus stuff. Let me know if you can identify it and I'll move this to the correct forum. Thanks fellas.

G529 intervehicular cable. Hard to tell if it is original but the asphalt impregnated cotton loom is also correct. Are the plugs themselves Bakelite? Genuine WWII are not solid black but more of a mottled finish to even a grayish or brownish mottling. Are the 3 or 4 wire? 3 is correct WWII.

How do I tell if the plugs are genuine Bakelite? I do not see the word Bakelite anywhere on either plug, however I do see patent pending. I would describe the color of the plugs as black. Any idea of the value? Which group on the G would be most interested? Thx Bill!

Hard to put a value without more information. 3 or 4 wire? Bakelite is the same material old rotary phones were made of.

G529 did not use a cable with a plug on both ends. 1 end was wired into the B.O. switch under the hand brake. other end had a plug for the towing vehicle.

I think this is a ww2 cable to link bomb-trailers behind a Chevrolet M6 or GTB bomb truck. I believe these little bomb trailers did not have a cable attached to them. For example the GTB bomb truck had a long cable and plug to get the first trailer hooked up.

Oh wow! I did not see that it has a plug at each end. I thought it was two separate IV cables. Thanks for the correction.

Just understand it's a valuable trailer cable to someone that needs one. Additionally, it could likely be altered to make a Jeep trailer cable.
WORST case, the wires within are original material and could be useful in repairing other similarly color coded wiring portions of the vehicle.

Had an original cable like this (but with 1 plug)

Had to end up using another 4 wire cable for the plug.
The rubber and canvas were (are) still in very good shape.

They tend to last.

Cheers
