Re: Shipping data
One question - is LBS a familiar expression in the states? Or CWT for Hundred Weight?
I'm mindful of the fact that they are meant for British shipping crews/logistics rather than US.
What do you think?

HEIGHT:.........40" (Loaded)
The manual uses "lbs." for all weights. An American Army outfit would not use "cwt." A trailer being prepped for shipping in either an American crewed vessel or a British crewed vessel in the UK would probably also add the "cwt." info however.

Re: Shipping data
Well, first try done.
The following shot is of the inspiration for my original paint/numbering scheme, the french shop markings and then my own interpretation.
Not perfect by a long chalk but, considering some of those I came across, not wholly unrealistic - I may leave it like that.

Re: Shipping data
Chuck,
"FYI....the trailer above is a Willys MB-T circa Jul/Aug 1943 with a serial number around 37500 +/-"
Does that tie in with my trailer, by any chance?:
Willys MBT
ACM no 57482
Manufactured: July 1943
Goran Noren

Re: Shipping data
Not really Goren...when comparing the ACM numbers between the Willys MB-Ts for instance, you have to check the Bantam list to see if you can tell if ACM was sending them in small batches or not. While the Serial Numbers on trailers were sequential, with ACM sending assemblies to BOTH Willys and Bantam at the same time and in smaller batches, it is not possible to estimate missing info based strictly on sequential ACM numbers unless you can prove none were sent to the OTHER company during the same time frame...
Now, when I get a trailer with an ACM very CLOSE to one in the data base that DOES have a data plate on it, the first thing I check is to see if the OTHER company had ACM numbers in between both examples....if not then the estimate is better...if they did ship to both, then a sequential estimate of the info on the trailer with the missing data plate is not possible based on a sequential ACM.
I hope that is not too confusing!

Re: Shipping data stencil
Quite a while ago, someone from down under did post a picture of his trailer with unmolested original shipping data stenciled on the side.
I had downloaded the picture, but cannot find it right now.
Maybe someone remembers it.

Re: Shipping data
This trailer is still in my driveway. It's being picked up by it's new owner early September. I can try to get better photos of the shipping stencil before it goes.

Re: Shipping data
Hope these help. Stars look to be about 5.5" tip to tip. I tried wetting down the lettering with some water so we could see it better, but as you can see the lighting was against me. Stark shadow or brilliant sun.
