Location of brake pressure electrical switch

Post by sstcobra » Mon Nov 15, 2021 1:22 pm

Can someone provide the location of the brake pressure electrical switch? My rear lights seem to be working fine, but the drivers side brake light does not illuminate when I step on the brake pedal with the dash switches in the correct position.

When set in blackout does the blackout brake light come on?

There are no brake lights that come on in any position of the blackout switch. The lower blackout lights come on (on both sides) when I move the BO switch to "BO Marker" and "BO Drive". Also, The drivers side upper light comes on (not the stop light bulb, but the one next to the brake light bulb in the drivers side light housing) when I move the selector "Service Drive"

But the stop light does not come on when I depress the brake pedal. And I checked the bulb and it is good. Frankly I am wondering if there is a brake switch there at all. I climbed under very briefly and looked around the master cylinder and did not see anything obvious that looked like an electrical switch. And I followed some old posts for an M38 to troubleshoot, but to no avail. Ran out of time today so I thought I would send this post

I have owned this Mite about 5 years, and have now retired to Florida, so I would like to use this on the road. This is really the first time I ever noticed the brake light does not work.

All help is appreciated.

Make sure it hasn't come unplugged. They are a pretty straight forward setup. The plugs are what usually go bad. The switch is not voltage sensitive so any two prong should work provided the spacing is correct.

From another thread on compatibility.

"Nobody but nobody offers a brake pressure switch for an M422 Mighty Mite so I did a little research and came up with this number, 5930-00-755-0761. The Mite SL lists it and when I did a compatibility search I found it to be listed as "M151 A-1 Switch, Brake Light, 7064588 5930-00-755-0761". I ordered the switch from Saturn Surplus."

Bill, where is this switch located? Is it on the Master cylinder?

Bill I looked up that part number and I can see what the switch looks like. Tomorrow when I have some time, let me get the Mite on the lift and verify the switch is installed and that it is properly wired.......Thanks for the help

To be continued........

The switch is on the frame next to the steering gear box. I sent you an email with a picture.

Update: Today I found the brake pressure switch, unplugged it, cleaned the contacts, reconnected the plug wires......Now the brake light is working as it supposed to.

It's nice to have an easy repair! Thank you very much for the help yesterday.
