M422 Exhaust Fording Pipe N.O.S For Sale

Post by BJBoehm » Sun Jul 11, 2021 12:56 pm

I bought a NOS exhaust fording pipe for my 422. The angle of the connection is not quite right to clear the bumper. Could cut and re-weld but hate to do that so am offering it for sale. Like new condition with minor storage wear. Asking $45 with the gasket plus actual shipping charges to your location.
Would be happy to send pictures if needed.
Thanks for looking,
Bruce in Delaware

Is it possible the tailpipe is not straight? I had to "manipulate" the pipe in order to make it fit on mine. Pictures sure would help.

I'll see if I can take some pictures to show the problem. Do you have the exhaust snorkle on your mite? If yes, do you have a heat shield on it or were they after market? The snorkle I have is the correct length but it sits well below the top of the canvas top and If I were to install it, I would want to put a 90 degree elbow on the end to deflect the exhaust away from the top. This would entail installing an extension of 12" or so and a 90 on it and either welding or clamping it and would look cheesy. Would rather have a piece of 1 1/2" tubing bent to meet the exhaust pipe connection as well as the extension height and the 90. Then, would not be sure if with only the single point of attachment if the top section would vibrate too much??
Thanks for your response.

It's just how they fit. The Mite exhaust extension did not have a heat guard.

Bill, do you get exhaust damage to your top with the pipe that low and no elbow?
Thanks,
Bruce

No, but I haven't run it all that much with the top or pipe. I did think of running it by the muffler shop and having a 45° or 90° about a foot long made that I could just slip over the tip.

You’re missing the clamp that bolts to the rear of the mite.

Part K is the bracket/clamp I was referring to.

Just couldn't see it. Is there a heat transfer issue on that bracket and bolt to the body of the vehicle? I've only had one mite with a folding kit installed but did not drive it much.

There is some but it's not too bad. The pipe doesn't really get that hot that I have noticed. Hot enough you don't won't to grab a hold of it but it can be touched. I rarely leave it on for long. The biggest issue I have found running it is driving at 35/40 mph with the windshield up creates a vortex and will gas you out. Perhaps an extension might combat that.
