I just went through this a couple of weeks ago. Wish your post would have been up then! Where did you obtain the welch plug? I could only find a freeze plug and had to grind that down to lower the profile and fit in the yoke. First time it was to high and rubbed on the yoke. What was the number of the spicer U-joint you used?

Welch plug=#mep-23, 1-5/16" available on eBay.Napa might have.
U-joint=spicer #5-153x any autoparts store.
