Fuel gauge sending unit
Does anyone have the technical data on the Mighty Mite fuel gauge sending unit? I'm looking for ohms throughout the ranges, empty to full. I have an M151 sender in it now but it does not read correct. It's full for what seems like ever then nearly empty. I have a Mite sender but it is in rough shape. If I can get it cleaned up and it will range right I'll install it. TIA

Re: Fuel gauge sending unit
Bill,
I'm sure that all of the military 24V M series senders are the same ohm range as the gauges are interchangeable. Your gauges actions could indicate a poor ground.

Thanks David. I will go through and check all the grounding points. I bought a new gauge when I put this all together years ago but it has never worked right.

Re: Fuel gauge sending unit
I think you may just have it David! I did a little grounding work on it today and it seems to be working like it should. It's got about 30 miles on it since the last fill up and it is reading 3/4 tank where before I did anything it was full. ThanksD Pizzoferrato wrote:Bill,... I only used "could" in case it wasn't, although I knew it was. Ask my wife; she'll tell you I'm always right

Re: Fuel gauge sending unit
I will post the photo I sent you. That is all I have of an original M422 sender. The sender that is in mine is having problems I'm sure of it. It seems to be working now but I want to have another sender on hand just in case.

Re: Fuel gauge sending unit
Okay, here is the latest on the fuel gauge issue. Yesterday I went hunting and started with a full tank (and it showed a full tank). Throughout the day the gauge would show full, 1/2, 1/4, 3/4 depending on how level or not so level the terrain was. To me, it fluctuated a great deal. It wasn't like I looked down and saw the gauge needle move either. It moved fast enough to watch it move. So, I got back to town and it was showing exactly 1/2 a tank. I put 6.5 gallons in it to fill it up. Being that it is a 12.5 gallon tank I am satisfied that the gauge is registering correctly.
Now, should the gauge fluctuate so much so fast or should it be more dampened for lack of a better word?

Hello, this is the sending unit that was in my Might.
Anyone have an idea what vehicle its originally from?

Looks like the correct Mite sender to me.

Re: Fuel gauge sending unit
I don't think it's a stock sending unit.
The old one just has a screw to attach a ring type wire connector not the Packard connector.
It also has an adjustable length main shaft.
This is the one I bought from Surplus City years ago. (I painted it) Packard connector and not adjustable like the one in the manual.

Re: Fuel gauge sending unit
I've seen them with and without the Packard cups. Inside the Packard cup is a small nut and flat washer that secures to the threaded post.

Re: Fuel gauge sending unit
I've never seen a stock one that has an adjustable shaft.
And the end of the wire going to it has been cut and a ring terminal spliced to it, so still not thinking its stock.

Oh, I see now. Sorry I was looking at the wrong photo. The old one on the open manual is not correct. Sorry for the confusion.
