I just purchased M422 with frame number 403. No hood number but would like to have the correct number if possible to interpolate the proper hood numbering sequence to this frame number.
Thank you.

Bruce, look on the right side of the rear bumper. That is where I found mine. Estimating the correct number isn't possible on these as the numbers were not applied in any traceable sequence.

I have a correction for my M422a1 serial number. I originally stated it as 2596, as per the dash dataplate (that has no other numbers stamped in it), but after reading in an article some where that the number is stamped on the top right corner of the drivers side firewall,
I now know the number to be 2066.
The retiring airmen that sold it to me said he brought it back from the Philippines, paid $3 and a lot of red tape to get it titled!

That is not the serial number. That is the boby number and has no correlation to the serial number. The data plate number is your serial number and can be checked against the frame number. They should be the same. The frame number is located on top of the frame at the front left (driver side) shock. The engine number is different also.

The body number is like that compared with the Willys MB. They had a frame number that should be the same as the data plate number but the tub and engine numbers are different.

I hope this helps. :)

Hi all, new to the forum and new owner of an M422A1. It's ID plate number is 3188, with hood/bumper number 309908.

I've got a few questions if I may. Id like to know what year my mite was produced in, but the ID plate is weathered to the point that I can only make out the serial number. Is there a way to do so while I wait for the title to arrive?

Second, are there any sites that you'd recommend for purchasing parts? It's in pretty rough shape, so I've got a lot of work ahead of me.

Thanks much and best wishes.

Can anyone share if they have ever seen in person one of the original prototypes Serial number 1-10. If so would You mind sharing some photos. I only ask because I have been told by someone they have one for sale along with many crates of new old stock original parts including windshields gas tanks Pistons Crank shafts as well as paperwork and documents about the performance tests .I’m considering purchasing as an investment.I know there are old black and whites but I wanted to see more current pictures to compare when I go to check it out
Thank You

I've never seen one however since the original prototype had a Porsche engine and was completely different from the production model all those NOS parts would be proprietary to the prototype.

Did the seller provide pictures of what is for sale?

No Sir no pictures
Gentlemen I’ve bought things from over the years just told me about it yesterday when I called to check on him as We hadn’t spoke since December last year and last time I visited his place was at atleast 4 years before that. He is a straight shooter and I want to believe He’s giving Me correct information. I read about the Porsche connection and figured any engine parts would likely be for that engine if everything had been together since the beginning. Says all parts in original crates and include the engine parts as well as multiple windshields and multiple gas tanks. I plan on going to visit either this coming week or the following and wanted to be as educated as possible to the current market if it ends up really being the #6 prototype and not #106. For what it’s worth he said #6 several times when describing it and said has all the documents describing the tests as well as photos. It sounds to good to be true but I’ve bought some amazing things from him in the past.
Even if I can’t make a deal that makes sense I will take photos to help with the archives here if the thing isn’t gone before I can get there. As a side note He also has a massive collection of military jeep parts.

As promised a follow up on possible prototype
I believe what I have come upon in actually a early three digit pre production model
I believe Like the prototypes the exhaust exits both sides thru the frame
I’ve attempted to attach the data plate image but get file to large I’m trying to figure out how to do this on IPhone
