Hi Jim,
Would you happen to have the USMC number for this vehicle or one very close in this serial number range?
Thanks!

Hi Ron,

I just brought into the shop M422 SN#1322 with a DoD of ?-19-61. (can't read the month due to a hole in the data plate) The body number is 1233. I'm restoring it for a couple in Valley Ford, WA. It's basically complete...all except for the rims. The gal's dad used it to cruse the scab lands in Nevada so he put on some super wide tires & rims...for better flotation I guess. So...who's the best parts source for this baby, and more specifically...anyone have 5 stock Might rims they'd like to sell me???

Thanks!

Dave

Hi Ron,

I have two Mites. First: M422 serial number 469 (tag and frame) Body number 417, Dod 12-21-60.
And one M422A1 serial/frame number 1688, body number 1600. I found the USMC number on the hood under layers of paint: USMC 307550. There are also unit symbols on the tailgate and the front. A blue “V” with the number “810” between.

Both Mites are in unrestored condition. Restoration will start as soon as I have bought a new house (with many garages! :D ) In the meantime I attempt to collect the missing parts.

Gentlemen,

Here's my M422A1. It has been in the family for around 40 years. More than once it has been the center of attention at family gatherings.

S/N 3588. USMC# 306228. No mfg. date on the data plate.

The markings on the side and tailgate indicate it served with the 2nd Marines. Based on the hood markings and the information my grandfather received when purchased it is believed that the Mite spent some time overseas. I have not found any information concerning the Project High Fly marking on the hood.

She's mostly original with the more modern electronic voltage regulator being the biggest change. The top end has never been off the motor. The timing gear was replaced several years ago. It runs very well but needs a few things fixed. Does anyone know where to get the speedo gear inside the transmission?

My boys store some of their toys under it. They dig it when I take them and pick them up from school in it.

My father got to do a complete foot tour with the Army 3rd I.D. in WWII. Every year we participate in the San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade where my father gets a low parade number (toward the front) due to his status. The boys ride along with us as well, wave flags, and have a good time. This is from 2009.
Image

This past year the SeaBee's from Pt. Magu wanted to take a picture comparing yesterday to today. What a great group of guys and gals. The Gunny's kept telling the younger generation how lucky they were to have equipment as good as it today. Imagine being in urban combat with a Mite? Yuck.
