Re: Wiring Harness?
I hope you are sitting down! The only place that has them is Vintage wiring and they KNOW they are the only ones that have them. Last price I saw was around 1500.00!!!! You will never find a new original and even if you do it will probably be bad. The insulation they used in that era was garbage and it just dried out and flaked off no matter what. I have a half dozen harness' and some of them are off of almost new at the time vehicles but they are still falling apart and I will not use them. I am actually converting mine to a later A2 harness.

Re: Wiring Harness?
Rick - just curious: when you're completing your conversion of an A2 harness to fit in your A1 - could you please document all the changes you had to make? Or perhaps someone has already documented the process??
I'm restoring my A1 and having the same issue - I have two A1 harnesses (both front and rear). The connections are decent, but the insulation is wasted. I was thinking about re-taping the pieces that are messed-up but that's just trying to "polish a turd" in sophisticated science language.
Any wisdom you might have would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!

Re: Wiring Harness?
I will be sure to do that. I got the new A2 harnesses in but I am in the process of clearing out a spot in my property for a prebuilt shed and I have quite a bit of clearing to do. So I have been tied up with that project trying to get it done before the shed arrives, which can be anytime between now and ten weeks. The 95 degree heat is a killer for me anymore, when I was in my 30's-40's it was not bad but pushing 70 and cutting down trees in this heat is tough. That wiring project is next on the list as soon as I am done with the clearing and I will take pics. There really is not a lot to it. Do you plan to keep the electric fuel pump?

Re: Wiring Harness?
Good Afternoon Everyone:
Several years ago, I was putting an M-38 together. I had a really great chassis, but the body was missing in action. I bought a reproduction for the project. As this jeep would never be an 'original', but wanting to maintain the look and basic style, I purchased an M-151A2 wiring harness. At that point they were relatively inexpensive. Yes, there were some minor differences, some rerouting of a wire or two, but none were show stoppers. One of the cool things about the M-Series wiring harnesses are the stamped metal tags . What I discovered was that the number for the high beam light on the M-151 was the same number on the M-38. So it was relatively, again relatively, easy to make the adaption.
Good luck.
Regards,
Walter

Re: Wiring Harness?
Yes, I have collected two NOS pumps so I’m good to go for a while. Is it easier to just equip with an outside the tank pump??Rickf wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 4:40 amI will be sure to do that. Re: Wiring Harness?
If you have the original pump then no, it is best to use that. It is always best to push the gas from the source than pull with an electric pump. The only electric pump I recommend is a centrifugal pump and they are expensive and rather large for a mutt installation. I have one on my M37. Much more room to hide it on there. The other option is the factory A2 engine mounted pump but again, they are also getting hard to find. With the original pump all the lines fit, the wires are there and fit. Even if you go to a later A wiring harness it is not hard at all to build just the small section of #77 circuit harness needed for the pump and wrap it into the A2 harness.

Re: Wiring Harness?
Thanks for your wisdom!! Hoping to get moving on our A1 here soon - I contracted a company to pour the cement for a 30x40 garage this spring. Well, it's August and not much has changed in quite a while: no cement = no garage. Hopefully we'll have a place to work before the snow flies!
Have a great day!
