Serial numbers
I'm hoping that someone can help this novice identify my jeep engine, because I have received conflicting statements and my research has left me even more confused. My 1943 MB has a Chassis number of MB24653. Where the confusion lies is the Head 639660 and the engine block 11-26 638632 W4A NI OR-2. Is this a WWII engine? Would be most grateful for any assistance and information.

Re: Serial numbers
You are mixing serial numbers and part numbers; that part number was used on CJs too; and I don't have all the Nickel, Chromium (CR, not OR) and Copper suffixes memorized.
Just list the serial number of your block, which is on a pad on the left side, under the oil filter. That will tell you if your engine is original; they run ahead of vehicle serial numbers. Depending on month and year.

Re: Serial numbers
Hi Beek,
Two observations:-
1. Your MB frame number is one digit too short - all MB’s have six digit frame numbers.
2. The casting date of your block is Nov 26th however we need the engine serial number (on the machined face behind the oil filter) to work out a year.
If I work on the basis that your frame should be MB 24653x then your frame is late Jun ‘43 and the engine is not “date aligned” with the frame.

Re: Serial numbers
Hello,
That jeep was already registered in the G503 database since 2009 under the record # 4010
https://sn.g503.com/view/4010
The serial number is MB246531.
A new registration would be nice to trace that jeep history from owner to owner
.
MB 246526 with original data plate was dated from July 1st 1943. So as Scrumps advised, late June or early July 43 would be correct.,
