Markings for a Harley WLA

Post by doctordirt » Mon Jul 05, 2021 1:19 pm

A friend has recently acquired a '43 Harley WLA and has had it restored to near factory condition. He asked me if I knew what markings would be appropriate for his bike.

Based on what I could find, which is very little, I assume motorcycles were assigned as courier and Military Police vehicles. I am, so far, unable to find a wartime TOE that shows what sections in a division HQ would have been authorized a motorcycle.

Would a deployed divisional MP platoon have motorcycles?

Would the division signal officer have motorcycles assigned to his section?

Any help would be appreciated. As a side note, as late as the 1990's my own HQ was authorized two motorcycles in the S1 section on our MTOE, but I never saw them. They gave us an additional HMMWV as an in-lieu item.

Thanks,
jd
