You can request his records from the VA as his family member. A fire at the archives in St. Louis I believe in the 70’s destroyed a lot but it’s worth a try.Austinmf wrote: ↑Tue Feb 21, 2023 8:51 amBump again
I have a 1943 gpw. 104342
Trying to find a unit for it. Think it was made in Kentucky.
My grandfather was in the ETO but no idea what unit. Joseph Carl Pinter was his name. He supposedly got to the battle of the bulge right after it was over.
Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Recommendation; pick a unit and go with that. Spending years on thinking about it is wasted time. You can always change it later.
One uncle of mine was in the 428 Inf Regiment, 26th ID, Third Army (commanded by LTG Patton). Heavy weapons company, first battalion. Wounded in Wiltz Luxembourg, in the Battle of the Bulge. Jan 1945.

You are absolutely correct sir. I'd like to build a PTO Medic Jeep, with the frames for stretchers.. and Honor my Uncle's service with the 27th Infantry Division, 102nd Medical Battalion, D Company.. He fought at Makin Atoll, Eniwetok, and Saipan before heading to Espiritu Santo for R&R... then he shipped to Fort Benning, GA to work at the hospital until the war ended..

Arnold,
Your Army Medic Jeep is not designed the same as the USMC ambulance Jeep. The Army configuration did have the same "jungle gym" litter racks as the USMC ambulance Jeep had.
There were at least two designs, besides the field expedient designs. The jeep had stretchers side by side on the rear platform in lieu of the one rack above the other on the passenger side of the jeep body like the USMC version.
The Army version may have had stretcher racks on both the front and rear of the jeep as well.
I tried to do a quick search, but was unable to find any of the photos of Army Medic Jeeps in my files.
Good luck on your restoration,
The Fireman
