Semi butchered FAV
Bought this from a movie prop company. They were modifying it to look more like a DPV and figured the expense and work wasn't worth the return. Pretty stripped but had to get it, when would be the next time I ran across one. No transmission or working engine. No ownership or data plate. Did chenowth put their own vin on it somewhere(heard they did)?

The Chenowth frame number plate is on the lower frame tube by the left hand battery tray behind the drivers seat.

Re: Semi butchered FAV
I have a lot of detail photos taken from the one at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio if they would be of any help.
Great find!

Looks like 1649 to me. Anyone know if that number would have matched or partial matched the data plate? Like the data plate would have been 001649? Or anyway to find out any other info on it. Thanks guys.

Re: Semi butchered FAV
I have hundreds of photos of the Chenowth FAVs I bought at auction 18 months ago....whatever you need photo’d - let me know - probably already have it. I also may have some spare parts and certainly have info on the engines and transmission. There is a guy that doesn't post often that is a key resource. I also have the manual if you want it - not very informative but interesting. Seems Chenowth put his part numbers on all the off-the-shelf stuff he bolted onto the frames!!! So outsourcing spares is an issue.

interesting vertical instrument panel and what kind of engine is that - doesn't look like a standard VW 2011cc stroker!?

Honestly, I have no idea. It was out in the parking lot (with some reference to it being owned by the Navy ).

Did you ever figure out where all the chassis/serial number are? there should be numbers in two places, one is the Chenowth chassis info and the other is the military stamping if it was actually military, tons of "clones" out there.

Re: Semi butchered FAV
I found mine on a the lower frame member around the driver's seat. Mine also had two Nevada Test Site "DOE" (Dept. of Energy) stickers on the central frame member. Bought both from a Sandia Base auction where the Sandia National Laboratory is located. Though I never saw them there - allegedly these two vehicles were "gate guards" by the Sandia Base Motor Poll for decades.
Is your comment that there are 'fakes' out there?

Where was the DOE sticker? I have a FAV that was out of Nevada and was supposed to be used by the DOE. The Chenowth chassis number is 1585
That tan one above is not a FAV, not even the same chassis, maybe a DPV or LSV?

Re: Semi butchered FAV
Mad dog, I have a Chenowth FAV that I made into a quail hunting vehicle for use in far west Texas. It is a perfect vehicle for what we use them for. Am I going to get killed on this site for cutting one up? There is a guy in Ft. Stockton TX named Lanham that makes similar vehicles for hunting, but there is a three year waiting list and a price of +$18K. Im not going to post a picture of my FAV if I am going to get a bunch of guff about it. Notrees Hunter.
