Have the speedo and cable but it won’t register..I’m thinking the drive gear in the transmission may be bad.
Anyone have an idea which one to get? It has the original VW five rib transmission.

I used a modern GPS speedometer and it worked great. Fit in factory hole too.

Ideally you're seeking a VDO analog Cockpit series Speedometer 0-85 mph with the integral odometer, but not trip meter. I don't have the Part Number or Model Number (Mogman's photo)
And if you have the VDO Cylinder Head Temp Gauge, still, treat it with kid gloves, VDO discontinued the Cockpit Series 0-600 degree CHT Gauge1995 M1025A2 Orig 5SFG GMV ODA525 "Hammerhead"

Fund an original NOS VDO mechanical with 0.1 miles on the odometer on Epay RECENTLY.....expensive but worth it.....I guess?
making great progress. The air horn to Weber carb adapters have been water-jet cut and ready to install.
