Aucton Find: in NM from Sandia Army Base

Post by DaninNM » Fri Nov 22, 2019 6:03 pm

Got a call from a friend that attends the local Govt Surplus auctions in ABQ and said a couple of military vehicles were coming up for auction. Found a pair of Chenoweth FAVs up for sale at auction and a M4? (data trailer). Allegedly they were owned by the DEPT of energy – one had a DOE sticker on the frame – other not. One with side baskets and the other not. Smoke mortar launcher on one but not the other and bubba worked on the two dashes! Restoring for movie use and driving in the desert! Only one bidder other than me.

No they were on a local auction company's calendar. The base has a big tenant (Sandia National Laboratory) that sends a lot of stuff to the auction and it does not go to GOVPLANET.... The other bases in NM send all their stuff to GOVPLANET.
They have a huge electronics auction an then a miscellaneous auctions with chairs, desks, and odds and ends - which is here the vehicles often show up....

Yep! The internet bidder stopped at $1300 (each) and the floor bidder I was bidding against stopped at $3100....I bought both of them for $3200 plus the standard buyer fees and taxes. already assembling parts to take them back to the original configurations. Someone buggered the dashes. One had the side baskets and one did not. One had the smoke mortar attachment base and one did not. One was missing a few of the original set of ten Bilstein shocks. Both were missing the original headlights and tail lights but the brackets were there. One was missing the air log wit the K&N 'mushroom' air cleaners. Both were missing the air duct over the carb. Seats were trashed!!!!! Neither was hit or damaged by driving - not handled to rough - no dents, no bruises! Exciting to own; more exciting to think about driving them as a pair in the desert & sand dunes somewhere!!!!
I wasn't going to let them get away!!!!!....the other floor bidder knew it.
