Post by tankjeepman » Sun Nov 03, 2019 7:00 am

Does anyone have the spring clips that hold the front wiring harness in place? I need 8.

I checked on some a while back, I remember Red River didn't have any, not ready to pay $8 on e-pay, let us know if you get a lead. I remember a thread where someone used some from a classic car restoration dealer, don't remember where I saw it tho.

Restoration Specialties had a whole batch of sizes.
Not quite correct but possibly could do.
The other solution is to use the nylon straps that were used in the last contract for 151s
Also available from the same source

Tankjeepman,

After I saw someone asking $7 dollars a piece on eBay for them I knew I needed to find another source. Since Ford designed and built the first M151’s I reasoned that the clip was likely a Ford stock part at one time. It was! They were used on 1948 - 1950’s Ford trucks.

Enter this number into google, 8M-14197

They are $2.95 each!

I hope this helps any who are needing them.

That was my post awhile back when I was restoring my 1961 MUTT. I got mine from Dennis-Carpenter.com in NC. Part number 51C14197. $2.95 each. They fit 1932 -1952 Ford pickups. Like Joe, I reasoned that if Ford had already made a part when they designed the MUTT, then they certainly weren't going to make something they already had. Look at the screw jack, looks just like the GPW jack. You can also find the swivel clamp that holds down the rubber grommet where the wiring harness comes through the firewall. Kevin.

Kevin, If that holds true then why did they use u-joints at all positions with no civilian crossover?

Well Rick, That is a good question. The shafts had to be designed to take the projected torque without breaking. Maybe the U-joints they had were a bit bigger or smaller than what was needed to ft the shafts and not break. Just supposition.

I do know that on Easter Sunday, 1977, I was driving my M-151A1 from New Orleans to San Francisco to get to my new post in Oahu, Hawaii. Somewhere in barren Texas the right front wheel bearing went bad. I stopped at a small town gas station off I-10. The owner took pity on this stranded SPEC Four and let me use his garage tools to pull the bearing and race out. He then took me to the local Ford tractor dealer where his friend was doing inventory. The Ford guy spent about five minutes and came back with a set of Ford tractor bearings and races that were the same as mine. I bought two sets, put one on and was on my way, without further incidence, to San Francisco where the MUTT was shipped to Hawaii. You just never know. I will look into this further. Best regards, Kevin.

Restoration Specialties has them, $2 each. I bought B1225, B1255a size 1/2" 3/8". Looks like exact copy. You need to call them to get a decent shipping rate. Still $9 for 20 clips.
