2ws steering link bracket

Post by rtadams89 » Wed Feb 03, 2021 2:01 pm

I have a 4ws A5 I would like to have the option of reverting to 2ws. My Mule, being an A5, does not have the bracket on the frame tube. Does anyone have detailed dimensions/drawings of how the bracket is built and located, or should I just align the rear wheels, crawl under, and estimate where a bracket needs to be?

Check with John Emery, I thing he still makes two different brackets, one that bolts on and one that welds on. I would adjust the rear wheels so they are tracking true with the front wheels (use a string) and then mount the bracket. John's bolt-on bracket will allow you to make some adjustments to the bracket location.

Yep, saw those and may end up going that route (particularly if I need to order other things on my list); just curious if there were in drawings/dimensions out there to make my own.

I discovered my spare mule had a bracket on it already, but it doesn't look anything like the one John Emery sells. No idea where it was made or by who, and while it didn't look particularly strong, it worked well enough to move my running mule around in 2ws. Anyhow, ended up ordering a bracket from Emery which just showed up today and I plan to swap it in while I'm doing my steering linkage rebuild.

Did John send you a paper with measurements to where to put the bracket?

Sure did. I mounted it up temporarily using the dimensions supplied. Looks generally good to me. I plan to get all my wheels aligned, and then move the bracket (if needed) to keep the wheels aligned when in 2ws mode.
