Alternator/fan belt

My alternator belt is different than my original fan belt( smooth vs serrated. Will it work?? And fatter.

Wouldn't it take a different pulley?

It seems to run alright, but now the engine sounds underpowered, not getting up to speed, with a labored chunking sound. It ran fine before the alternator installation. Could be the tightness of the belt or what ? I took the fuel filter off to see if it somehow gotngunked. I clueless.
