Hello everyone. I have a couple of mules but am writing for a friend who has met a challenge in fixing a 4 cylinder version of our beloved beast.
Jeff needs to know what to do if there is low manifold intake vacuum. The box manifold to the block does not leak. The vacuum leak seems to be coming from the seals to the runner tubes. What type of seal did they use because we cannot find one that works. Jeff was sent o-rings but they are too small and do not fit or work. The rings that were sent were round and looks like we need square ones. Jeff pulled the runners off, did a vacuum test for every cylinder and has over 20 inches of vacuum for each one.
Can anyone help solve this challenge?

Contact me via e-mail or PM I may have a broken 4cyl G/S set to supply what you need.
From TM 9-2805-211-35P Feb 1964
An Intake leak on a 4cyl engine could occur at:
1-Carb/Governor Mounting Gasket for AO-53 Carb Gasket for AO-53-1
2-Manifold Mounting Gasket Item 5
3-Intake Tube O'Ring at Manifold appears to be round Item 19
4-Intake Tube Gasket at Cyl Head Item 23
5-Item 17 Pipe Plug only on the AO-53
6-Item 14 Reducer, Pipe or Item 15 O'Ring only on AO-53-1
7-Or a Crack in the Runner of the Intake Manifold Item 8 [Not very likely]

Re: How to Seal Intake Leak?
Thank you Muleman 7 for allowing my friend to talk to you and discuss this problem. He was quite happy to talk to you and believes he is able to seal the leak.
