The 2A042 engine tear down is almost complete, however I have a question about the removal of the oil filler tube. I believe I have to remove it to use the MULE engine oil tube. Is it pressed in, threaded? looks like sealant around it. trying to avoid damaging the case. Can I throw heat to it?
The MULE engine illustrated parts list shows an O-ring but I don't see a part number. At this point I don't have a manual for the 2A042 genset motor.

Re: Genset oil filler tube removal
It's just held in by an O-ring. DO NOT use heat! Just put a pipe wrench on the tube close to the block and gently work it back and fourth until it comes loose. You can see the gen set filler neck at the bottom of this photo.
TM9-2805-258-24P does not list the O-ring as a seperate part, you will have to reuse your old one or find a matching one at a parts store.

Yup It came out just like you recommended. I put an 18"" pipe wrench to it and worked it slowly cw/ccw then some force in the up position and out it came. right tool for the right job. Of all my tools, I didn't have a pipe wrench so at first I tried with my large channel locks. no dice. cheap harbor freight but it bit good enough with the serrated teeth.
Thanks Chuck.

Re: Genset oil filler tube removal
Three other things I do:
I keep the genset timing gear cover so I do not have to replace a gasket and seal.
I keep the 3/16" engine to gov oil line and replace the fitting on the mule gov with the one on the genset gov.
If you want to stay with the screw on oil filter then replace the canister assy mount with the genset screw on assy mount.
You will need to cut off the oil filter mounting bracket to give clearance for the mule oil filler tube. The housing is thicker for the left side mag mounting bolt so you will need the same length bolt as the right side. I do this for all the conversions because it make less work not having to remove and replace the timing gear cover, gasket and seal.

Keeping the 2AO42 Genset Gov Oil Line to use with the Mule AO42 setup.

Re: Genset oil filler tube removal
That's a good looking motor. Well I have all the remaining parts saved, just in case, however I already removed the timing cover. (whoops). I have the spinoff oil filter and the gasket that is still attached but don't think I can reuse it. maybe use it to trace to make my own.
Thanks for the help.
