Ticking noise normal ?

Post by Sgtkish » Thu Feb 08, 2024 1:01 am

Hopefully someone can help me out here, or maybe ease my mind. I normally work on halftracks, jeeps, m37, but this is my first mule. It's nice to work one something that is much smaller, and not trying to smash you.

So I got this engine out and torn down for the most part. I still have the pistons, crank, valves and lifters in. I didn't want to break it completely down if I didn't have to because it only has 336 hours on her supposedly.

So when I turn the crank and both pistons are at bottom dead center it makes a load tick noise. Mind you the mag is out, so it's not that. Is this normal for this engine to have this load ticking noise ? I move it back and forth at the bottom position and it just clicks everytime I hit that point. Any suggestions, please? Thank you

Mark

This is difficult to answer without actually seeing the engine, but first thing that comes to mind is; are you hearing the fuel pump?
