Rebuild of GPW 226492
I started this project as a Gambler 500 rig, but it really has grown on me as I work on it. I have since decided to make it as close to original as I can with the very limited time and money I can afford. Everything on it is in pretty rough shape but it has been enjoyable slowly getting back together.

That is coming along great. Many on the board will applaud your decision to restore back to original. It's nice to see the ford marked parts. Thanks for posting the many pics.

Congratulations !!
Wow what a great job you are doing to save this GPW Jeep !!!
The body work looks great, you are saving a piece of History, I commend you for that and deciding to bring her back to life.
Every part and piece you need is available, and can be located.
You can get the simulated "snap off" rivets on ebay to attach the rear crossmember, as well as the front end frame to bumper gussets.
They really make for a nice effect !
Ron has great Joe's Motor Pool parts that are unsurpassed and are perfect.
They make a beautiful new gas tank, that is perfect as well.
Keep up your good work, and I see you also have an original engine to replace the other one, very nice
Keep us posted as you go along !
It is really starting to look like it should
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: Rebuild of GPW 226492
Thanks for all the kind words. I did pick up a MB engine, haven't been able to find a GPW one yet, it will have to do for now. I did get a nice windsheild frame as well, think it's off an MB or possibly a reproduction. I'll have to look into the fake rivets more, I do like the look of them, they just cost alot more than bolts. Sorry some of the pictures are out of order just trying to get it all caught up. The back panel, that was cut out for a tailgate, I repaired with a piece of scrap metal I found on the side of the road. I do really like restoring it and the history as it reminds of my time in the Army. Last photo is how I left it today, just about ready to get it reattached to the frame.

I did pick up this F marked transfer case with a group of parts, just not sure if it's to far gone.

Hello,
You might be surprised if you try cleaning those gears up.
Sometimes that crud comes right off, and then you can make a better assessment .
Keep us posted !

Found the F mark on the driver's side fender, oddly enough I haven't found it in the same spot on the passenger side. I also had thought they were on the bottom side.

Re: Rebuild of GPW 226492
Hello,
Very nice !!
Sometimes if they are stamped hard enough, you can see the impression on the bottom side of the fender panel.
But they are stamped on the top sides.
Keep up your search
Best Regards,
Ray
