Thanks for the kind words.
The shafts have some oxidization because it has been a number if years since I rebuilt her. Should I apply some grease or oil to the shafts and mating surfaces if it's going to be stored for awhile?

Yes,
I would use spray on grease or grease in general.
Bearing grease would be perfect for protection and storage !
Keep up your good works!!
You have an awesome Jeep !!
Well worthy of a good restoration, just try to do a little every day !
The work all add up towards the goal of a finished combat jeep
Keep 'em Rolling !!!
Best Regards,
Ray

Should I coat the internals and inside of the case with grease as well?
Also can you tell me if this is a post war transmission? The boss where the date code would be is blank.

Hello,
Yes, I would oil up the inside as well with correct gear oil for the transmission.
This transmission was only used during WW2 production. Post war was the T90.
Most of mine have no date code stamped on them, as a matter if fact, I don't think any of mine have a date code stamped on top of them !!
Best Regards,
Ray

Internals are all oiled up.
It is a relief to know that the case is the genuine article. I've never seen one on here that has the same markings which is why it concerned me.
Next I want to get a look at the bell housing and start getting it prepped to mount the transmission and transfercase.

A few more items spray painted. I'm guessing the shift levers are not correct because they aren't threaded. Can anyone confirm that?

unscrew and dispose of the old inserts that are on the top of them.

Right after I posted that I was googling "dana 18 non threaded shift levers" and came across someone that had those caps on his levers and he made the same mistake thinking it was all one peice. I feel silly. Thanks for the heads up as well Adam.

So after some thought I think I'm going to take my transfer case apart and have it re sand blasted. There is alot of rust from where it sat unfortunately. Some rust on the gears as well which I'm going to apply oil to so they don't rust further.
Here are some pics. I think this is a late war transfercase Serial # J372345
C18-15-10-1
9-8
Shift lever arm
C18-19-5

Do you have the nut washer and yoke for the end? are you changing the bearings and seals?

Re: MB451252 DoD 6-29-45 Restoration
I do have the yoke and nut washers. I am not changing the bearings and seals as thus was rebuilt 5 or 6 years ago and was never used. I opted to just remove the caps from the transfercase and wire wheeled them. Then I taped them off and sprayed red oxide and the od. I worked on the wire wheeling the main part of the case today but I had a hard time getting all the rust out because it seems to have alot more small pores so I may just spray the main case with rust mort and then paint.
