You don't need a new body: fix this one; floors are available; can't see this one but they are usually gone around here.
Restoration is not anything like vehicle maintenance; costs a lot more and requires very detailed learning and technical skills process. Way above any maintenance action.
How much is it worth? $5k. Six for someone who really wants it; Be prepared to add another $6k to get it to original condition. I mean like new. If you have to pay market rates for body work, doubler that. Best to learn how to weld and do body work. It's easy.
If the engine needs rebuilt, add another $5k.
All More or less.

I got my #s matching Dec 42 from a California farmer, running, driving it needed new shift linkage, tires and wheels, has solid original floors. Haven't started the restore process but paid $6k plus shipping ($1200) with the floor gone in this one I would probably top around 5 citing the above needed repairs.

Good luck.

I agree 8k is way too much. Having bought and restored many of these you want the most complete jeep available for the least money. You’ll barely get your 8k back parting it out if you even do. It’ll take 10k or more to make it a respectable driver restoration. Don’t part with your hard earned money too quickly. Offer 4 k and you might get him to drop to 6k but in my opinion that’s still high. If it’s numbers matching and has the original matching motor and decent rust through free frame without a bunch of crap welded on, then 6k might be ok.

On second thought, that jeep looks to be an original survivor from what I can see from the pics. If it really is a factory survivor, I’d do a mechanical restoration and leave the original paint alone and not tear it apart.

Thats what Im thinking, you can still see the side invasion stars. But everything's there, gun rack, blackout lights, special horn, two combat wheels so I will have to find the other three. I will check for the pintle hook tomorrow. But like I said in the perviously, this is a two owner jeep, Uncle sam and the guy who bought it from Uncle Sam.

Some rare parts, horn, top bows, to name a few, but the data tag looks in worse shape than the body. They obviously have other Jeep’s. Someone who knows what they are doing should look at it. Pictures are marginal.

Tom at jarheadjeep.com has a database and said this was built in the Louisville, KY plant because the data plate has “1/4 T stamping that matched other original units made from that plant. I tried to upload larger files to the page but they are too big.

Not exactly sure how you mean your comment about someone “who knows what they are doing” is suppose to help me here. Im 39 years in military vehicle maintenance and currently still serving. Anyway I will go this weekend and probably trailer it to the shop.

I trust you know the mechanics of the Jeep. For collectors a Jeep with vintage mismatched parts can run great but have a huge impact on the price. If you are paying the prices mentioned here you can hardly go wrong.

Heck I’d buy it. 6,000-8,000 is where I’d be.

Looks way better than what most of us start with.

If it was me I’d do a mechanical restoration and enjoy it as a survivor.
