Hello group,
As some know from the photo thread, I have acquired a 1942 GPW, #72320 (body GPW-style without numbers, tag/frame match, engine #RJ292688 Willys Industrial). The unit was at the Allison Steel depot 7/45, and has been with one family since the 50's. I was removed from dark storage after 40 years.
This thread will aim to document the assessment, disassembly, cataloging, components, and reassembly. Please follow along!

Re: 1942 GPW Remanufacture
It's been an exceptionally busy shop fall and winter; lots of NEW jeeps wanting mods, and others that generally get ill in due course. However, the new parts cache for her restoration grows every week; and THIS week, I finally have a window dedicated to her.

Engine is disassembled (see post 1942 GPW Engine in general tech). Only one casualty: the foward-most manifold bolt broke off.

Re: 1942 GPW Remanufacture
Hoorah!!! The bonded title process is complete, new title in-hand with correct GPW model designator, year, and serial number. OUTSTANDING!
On another note, the three data plates are copper, steel, steel, with a thick steel data plate from the rehab facility, Allison Steel Manufacturing, Phoenix, AZ.
The cylinder head was an Industrial part; I have a GPW one that will go on the "RJ" block. The cylinders cleaned-up nicely, with the bottom-end bearings looking very good. Cam bearings and journals also look fine; in fact, the engine was very clean inside and ran/idled perfectly.
More to follow.
