Dodge Winter Photoshoot - December 9th
On the evening of December 8th, it began snowing. There was quite a lot falling, but it wasn't laying on the ground as much as the snow fall suggested. By late evening, the garden was white and there was a covering of around 3/8 inch. As I've never had the Dodge out in snow for pictures, I decided if the snow was still on the ground in the morning, I'd go for a local run around and get some pictures. Until we moved house, the Dodge always spent the winter hibernating in its shipping container with the battery out.
On the morning of Friday 9th, the snow had melted a little, but there was still enough on the ground for some nice pictures. I was on the move by about 09:20hrs and got the first pictures are a layby near home by 09:30hrs.

I wasn't going far, but there were a number of spots to pull in for pictures along the route. Several of them were move suited for shooting into the low sun, which was only around eight degrees above the horizon at that time. Blue sky, some clouds and a golden yellow light from the low sun added to the atmosphere of the pictures.

The area next to the village church gave a good view out over the fields, but once again, I was looking directly into the sun.

On to the next village where there's a nice country lane that I often visit for pictures. There were a couple of places to stop for pictures along this road. With it being a quiet road, it was still mostly snow covered.

A little further along the lane is my main spot for pictures. It was here I brought the two Jeeps for the sunset pictures in 2021.

There was one last stop towards the end of that lane, in a bit of a hollow with steep banks on either side of the road, an ideal vantage point for getting some slightly top side views.
I headed back home after that, having covered about 7 miles. Of course the garden hose and tap were frozen, so I had to wash the Dodge down with a bucket of water and a brush before putting it back in the garage.
I also had my "Camera-Carrzie" head-cam on for the drive and a heavily cropped version of the trip can be seen below. I would have liked a bit more snow, but I'll take what was provided.

I can't easily do that as I have metal bars bolted up the body and screen frame that the door hinges are welded to. These were from the original canvas Norwegian Army doors. I'd need to unbolt these bars before the screen would be able to fold.70th Division wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 10:56 am.....If you were a real fanatic, you could put the windshield down.....

Hello Steve,
That is ok, as I was joking, as I can almost feel the cold , with it snowing , and I can imagine how cold it must be driving and making that great video with the windshield up !!
I really enjoy your posts, and the Dodge in the snow is great !!
Keep up your great work !!
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: A B-17 Fortress, Two Jeeps and a Dodge - My Ongoing MV Journey
Too be honest, while it was cold out, around -2C, it didn't feel too bad, possibly because driving the Dodge is a lot more physical than a Jeep. I always get a good workout in the Dodge! Just thinking about the video, I tried doing the video in October for my "Colours of Autumn" drive in the Jeep. It was fine with the screen up, but as soon as I dropped the screen to give the camera a better view, there was too much wind noise on the microphone. I have done a little "Hard Core" driving in the past, but even the slightest amount of cold blowing in my eyes can make them water like crazy, so if it happens, it's usually in the Summer.
That may well be the last outing of the year, unless any of my local Jeep friends fancy a Christmas convoy. It's been another good year on the show circuit, with covid cancellations a distant memory and some great MV memories made.

Great looking pictures. I especially like the ones in the hollow.
Thanks for posting them. I hope you do a Christmas convoy, that would be cool to see.

In the 1970s, I always drove with my windshield down on all my jeeps, up to the CJ5 with 304 V8....
Now at 63, can not do it, my eyes water up to bad to see.....
Getting old sucks....do not know why they did not tell u in high School...

You... wash down an MV before putting it away?armyairforce wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 8:36 amOf course the garden hose and tap were frozen, so I had to wash the Dodge down with a bucket of water and a brush before putting it back in the garage.
I've owned my 1944 MV since 1999 and I've never washed it down for any reason other than if I was re-doing the markings or if I was getting cat tracks off during the time we had a cat living in the garage.

Yes, when the gritters have been out and the roads are salty.

If I lived someplace where they used salt I'd rinse the undercarriage. I've owned my Jeep since 1985 and lived in Arizona, California & Texas (Gulf Coast) with it. Summer 2021 on a trip in New Mexico the radiator got caked with mud. I took it to a self service car wash to get that out. That's the only time my Jeeps been washed since I've owned it.
