Question about wipers

Post by zborekp » Sat Apr 20, 2019 8:07 am

I think that this is never ending story.
I've read that only late jeeps (GPW or MB) should have vaccum wipers. But... two vaccum motors, or only one on driver side and single wiper for passenger side?
What about GPW/MB 1943-1944? Only tandem wipers?
Is it accetable to have one vaccum on the left and single wiper on the right to 1943-1944 jeeps?

Factory installed Vacuum Wipers were installed starting after late 1944 the Motor, WO-663636 was the same S-583 Trico installed on all Open Cab CCKW's and there was nothing to prevent CCKW Motors from being installed onMB/GPW prior to this date.

Zborekp, you could be getting mixed up with the Canadian contract jeeps. They had an electric wiper motor on the drivers side, and a mannual one on the passenger side.

On my early 1942 GPW there is / has been for a long time a vacuum wiper on the drivers side and a hand operated wiper on the passenger side according to the holes found in my original windscreen frame.
So probably anything goes as long as somebody could get their hands on one or two vacuum motors... except for a factory fresh jeep of course.
