Wendy was active around here in Santa Cruz. I used to see her around from time to time, but I haven't heard of, nor seen her in quite a few years.

My wife and I both own our MB together.

She doesn't drive a manual transmission.

I do.

So there is that.

:D
That is funny. It is like saying you both own the stove but you don't cook.  P.S. I did not mean that in a sexist way. I just bought us a really nice double oven gas stove that we both use. :D

Tell your wife I said " Congratulations !" on successfully driving a Model T, 42swing.
It sure is not like trying to Double Clutch into first gear on a jeep !

Relatively speaking we got married "late" in life.

I brought the stove, washer/dryer, and sewing machine into our life.

She brought the stuffed teddy bears.

Been an "on stage" musician most of my adult life. First thing we learned was, play music the ladies like. When they show up and have fun, the guys will follow.
May be on to something here. 8)

I am an owner who happens to be a lady. I am a real car gal, do my own restoration work and spend the time to do research (love this site!!!) Am bringing my work in progress (interrupted by death and near death in immediate family, California wildfire that we fought to save our home, etc.) 1942 GPW to Normandy in honor of my 94 year old father who served in the ETO and my brother is bringing his 1943 GPW. We hope to see many of you there!

And there is a lady in New York, last name Eaker.
My 44MB was owned by legendary Maine Guide Sarah Green from 1946 to 1969, she burned out two NOS GPW engines. I installed the 3rd NOS spare GPW engine that was stored in her shed.

Thank you for the kind words, Mark. The men of my father's generation who served in WWII are / were incredible people and we are happy to honor them. My dad, who was raised on a ranch his father homesteaded in North Dakota, came home from the war and became an engineer, going to school on the GI bill. My uncle was killed 7/12/44 in Normandy (same day as Teddy Roosevelt Jr died) and is buried there - we will be visiting his grave while we are there.

The smell of the GPW's canvas brings back many memories. While we were growing up, we did a lot of camping, using canvas tents, cots, buckets, etc. our dad bought US Army surplus. I think the "canvas experience" imprinted on all of us kids! :)

And to everyone on this site who cares for these vehicles, THANK YOU! It is truly a labor of love to maintain and restore these vehicles and to share their stories!

VC, thanks for the info on your father, mine also served in WW2 as a resistance fighter , but never spoke of it. After he passed away an old comrade of his told my Mom what a hero he was, but they were ALL heroes, and we will never forget them. As for the smell of canvas, i just wish they done it in aftershave. :D And more importantly enjoy your jeep.

Yes a truly amazing story that can be read here on a now frozen archived web site: https://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2people ... 7813.shtml
Mark, you should take care of saving that page before it disappears form the Internet!

Thats amazing Yves, how did you find that ? I remember doing that interview about 13 years ago. I did another piece about him on this website, which is still on here, somewhere. Thanks for your trouble of finding that, i really appreciate it. When Dad passed away he took so much history with him.
