I would go for the surge tank Radomonster, i think they look pretty cool. Try and fit the standard size, in my opinion the large one seems a bit cumbersome. And once fitted, the photos please. :D
I agree with you guys the desert kit is the way to go, and will definitely be picking one up! I might have to wait till pay day so in the meantime I'm going to rig up a canteen for a quick fix. I have a pretty good idea on not making it look stupid so it will do for a couple weeks... I'll post pics tomorrow...

Anyone have a desert cooling kit they want to let go of preferably brass and with the rock guard? If not I have found a few nice kits online

We need to get you a proper Oil Can to replace that one!

Oh, before you get off into a Desert Cooling Kit, now that you have the new head torqued down and a proper thermostat installed, try the same driving routine again and see if you are really going to overflow when you shut down on hot days. The system is designed to allow for some AIR in the top tank but it will spit out excess coolant if you fill it up over the "sweet spot" your motor/radiator requires.

Generally speaking, that is halfway down that baffle in the top tank. So, try filling up the system and driving to insure any air pockets in the block have been flushed out, then when the temp gauge reads nothing again (overnight), check the coolant level to see if your system is now working correctly. A little too much ADVANCE on the timing will cause the motor to run hot as well so the balance between starting right up (a little bit advanced) vs. a tad longer for the motor to start (a little less advanced) may be a better choice as this seems to help in topping out the RPMS and shift points.

Nice jeep!

Good point on the timing, sometimes it requires a trade off.

Still, the desert cooling kit looks cool.

Nice jeep!

Thanks Chuck!! Im Taking your advise and before I do anything else and monitoring the level and will play with the timing... I filled and drove it around yesterday, this morning the level was maybe a half inch above the radiator core in the top tank which from what I'm reading is right about where they want to be. Today I am going to drive up into the foothills for a car show so I will see how she does! today has a high of 91*

Thanks for the help guys!

Hope everyone had a happy 4th!

So after taking Chucks advise and playing with the timing, I retarded it just a bit and it has definitely helped with keeping it a bit cooler but I think I will still get a desert kit.

On another note my friend sent me these pics of this beautiful MA over the weekend and Im bummed I missed it in person. She saw it in the Sacramento area so I hope to see it around at another show!

Hello,

I had a great 4th with my jeep's first night run in 9 years since I bought it !

Your jeep and flag displayed looks great !!
I will look into doing that on my jeep.
My neighbor has talked me easily... into building him a 9th Division jeep. his father was with them all the way into Germany. He gave me a picture of his jeep, and they had the little red go devils logos painted on a plate attached to the jeep grill on the move in Germany.

That MA is an incredible looking restoration, it looks so nice.
Someone surely did a museum level restoration on that rare Jeep Gem !!!!!

Thanks for posting !!

I hope the owner posts some action pics here on the G !!

Best Regards,
Ray

the rest:

Now that I can read it, it was restored locally found in Northern California and says only 29 complete in the world left.

That certainly is a beautiful restoration!

I have only seen one MA in person, and it is currently being restored in Georgia. The dash had been badly butchered, with a few other Bubba modifications, but overall it looks like a very solid base, front end, fenders, hood and grill are in real good shape.

Can anyone think of a reason that when Im driving and its hot out that the temp will climb to 210-220 while going 40mph but then get to traffic and the temp will drop quickly when sitting still.... I put in a 160 thermostat when I did the new head... is water moving to fast through the radiator when the engine is reved and has a chance to cool when at idle?

also with the 160 therm I put in, When the jeep is warming up you can watch the gauge climb to 190 then open and then drop.... I looked back on my order from Ron and confirmed that the order was for a 160 temp but that doesn't seem right to me

Calibrate your gauge with another known unit (or infra red etc) then you will know whats happening. Is the jeep pretty powerful (I know its relative !) when ascending hills etc ? Just thinking the ignition may be a bit retarded - this would not really be a factor when idling. Hope this helps.

Picked up an MB block from Jay a couple weekends ago and will be tearing it down to get it machined soon by Jimmy Strauss Jeeps. I actually went there to pick up the block since it wasn't to far from my house and his shop is super nice!!! Very clean Very professional and Im looking forward to having a solid base to start the build.

I have also in the last few weeks found out that I have a torn rotator cuff that needs surgery, and I'm having a daughter in April! So hopefully surgery in the next few weeks so I can get healed before April. This and my wlc will be winter projects while off work (at least as much as I can) and hopefully this week I will strip down the motor.

Took a few minutes to start tearing down the new motor for the MB. So far so good... It appears to be bored 60 over so the only down side with that is when I send it out for machining, the block might have to be sleeved. Over years inside the water jackets electrolysis eats away material from the inside and makes it very thin in the cylinder when bored out any further... Hopefully by the end of the weekend I will have it torn completely down studs, freeze plugs and all.
