Jeeps are tough

Post by sjalbert » Mon Oct 08, 2018 2:13 pm

I was stopped at an intersection for an emergency vehicle (Fire Chiefs SUV). Driver behind me was trying to figure out where the emergency vehicle was. No Injuries. I hit the damaged area with a rattle can before I shot the photo. It's the crumpled area at the lower right and the paint was scraped off the handle.

I've got the dent mostly banged out. There's some damage to the rear cross member that's going to require me to borrow a welder (or take it to a shop and make a small insurance claim).

You took the precaution of adding extra rear lights and they still hit you? Sad indeed.

If it was a factory class restoration I'd be pissed. It was a minor tag. He was trying to figure out where the emergency vehicle was and didn't realize that I'd stopped. The LED's in my road lights are bright.

This clearly shows the difference between vehicles made of 100% steel vs. vehicles made of 10% steel and 90% plastic. Glad he (i'm assuming) looked up before hitting you square in the back, though. Regardless if the jeep survived, could have caused quite a jolt to you/your neck.

I was stopped at an intersection for an emergency vehicle
You should double check your brakes @ each wheel.
If you were stopped with the foot on the brake pedal, the brake shoes could have moved during the shock and be blocked.

With another car with similar brakes,I had that problem once after having been hit on the back without any apparent damage.
I've continued to drive the car until there were no more rear brakes and a strange smelt :( !
The rear brake shoes were completely destroyed.
