NOW THAT YOU ALL SPEAK G-503 JEEP

Post by Ben Dover » Mon Aug 06, 2018 9:43 am

Now that you all speak G-503 Jeep and have had all this volunteer expertise to answer your vehicle's ills, are there any G-503 Jeeps that are now happily roadworthy that might not have been had you not consulted G-503?

Have any of you purchased any G-503 related drawings that were turned over by TACOM to the MVPA HQ nearly 20 years ago? Anyone have any suggestions about any that are a "must have"?

I can say with some certainty that my '42 MB would either not be on the road, or at least not running as well, if not for this forum.

There's a lot to it, the Army had good service schools and plenty of Jeeps to practice on during the MA thru MD era, and taught GI's how to operate them do the important maintenance. it gave no consideration to the appearance of improved replacement parts, or the color of components, and there were bulletins for the mechanics to read when changes or upgrades were necessary.
Many of you are pretty good mechanics on your own and are more interested in the painting and fastener details, and this is where most are curious about.
Sharing this fun hobby right here on G503 is what it is all about.

Ben
I'd like to think you were right about guys wanting to pay attention to detail. However In my opinion so many read up and research here on 503. Then let themselves down on a great looking/running jeep by NOT going that little extra and getting it right. Plastic terminal connectors is my pet hate  :

What is sad is that real WWII history is dying with the veterans, how many of you can relate to actually seeing WWII Jeeps and other period MV's being operated on a 40's-50's military reservation, or listening to a GI cranking his CCKW thru all its gears on aquiet early morning military post, or hearing the rumble of Cletracs passing thru the main Gate of an Air Force Base?

I read a lot, learn a lot, post a little if I can't readily find pertinent information.

So, bit by bit, my GPW is getting better by reading the 'G'.
God gave you a soul.
Your parents, a body.
Your country, a rifle.

Keep all of them clean.

When I first bought my MB (my God, that's soon to be 20 years ago), I was here all the time as I didn't know anything about how one worked!
