Re: Remembering 6 June 1944 Today
I remember my boss telling me he was just 18 and put on detail with hundreds of other GI's to prepare Jeeps for fording. He quit school to join the Army and later became a successful engineer. Thousands of soldiers took part on D-day, many were persons we knew all our lives only to learn from their obituary that they served on an LST or operated landing craft on D-Day. I still have vivid memories of hearing Aircraft warming up at Dow Field while on their way to war.

Re: Remembering 6 June 1944 Today
Hello,
Today, is commemorating " The Longest Day " June 6, 1944
A day that Has Been Remembered ...
by the Veterans, their families, children and grandchildren of the veterans who were there and those who were Liberated
by and through their sacrifices.
I remember D-Day Veterans from the 29th, 1st, 82nd, 101st, and Navy veterans I have met over the years.
All who were their on D-Day.
My neighbor helped weld extra steel plates on the sides of Shermans and prep them for the landings before he and his Diamond T rolled ashore, and eventually ended up in Cologne. He said they were told to remove fuel from the tanks, leaving only a little.
He thought that was ridiculous, and it was.
The Europeans do remember, but I wish that here in America more people took the time to remember and reflect
on this great day in history, especially the youth and their parents !
I feel D-Day should become a National Holiday here in America
Commemorated by parades and such activities.
Remember all the veterans from all the wars and the D-Days they all took part in around this world !!!
God Bless them all, and their families !
Blessed are The Peacemakers .
Have a Safe and Happy D-Day Remembrance and Commemoration today !!!
I hope to be there in Normandy next year !!
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: Remembering 6 June 1944 Today
We will never forget our heroes, i was at a show the other week. I got talking to one of our brave veterans. He told me "He did not consider himself a hero, the real heroes were the ones who never returned home" . What a man.
