Re: Updated pics-US NAVY WWII Solomon Islands Willys resto
Here are a few updated pictures as of today 6/30/2013…
I drove it today for the first time. FUN !
That is not the battery that will be used.
A decision has been made to paint the windscreen gray with the rest of the Jeep. I have not been able to find any supporting documentation in either pictures or some type of NAVY Service Bulletin regarding the painting of certain windscreens white and therefore I cannot verify its originality. Thanks to Mark Thombleson, Jerry O’Neil and others who have spent time looking. Next week I should have a finished picture for you all and it's almost ready for the MVPA nationals.

While I was in Dubuque IA flying formation with the T6/SNJ NATA crowd my 1945 Willys WWII vet took 1st (Gold) at the Military Vehicles nationals in Portland OR in the restoration class. Out of a possible 1200 points, it scored 1180. Thanks Jimmy!

Congratulations! I know "nothing's perfect" but I'm curious about what didn't get full points. Tell Jimmy he did a great job too!

Jeff....I would imagine that in Factory Class a GPW painted Navy grey lost points on "Paint: Originality"....
I understand that Tom W. will eventually send the owner the points totals/score sheet if requested so he can see where he lost points.

Very nice jeep. Like the fact you have installed you steering wheel with one spoke up in the straight ahead position. I'm beginning to think that is the CORRECT FACTORY installation contrary to other opinions.

A few questions.
The color on the first pictures has a blueish hue that does not show up at all on the finished jeep.
Is it just an impression or did you actually change the color ?
I am asking because I had done my own jeep in blue grey, and I now like more the aspect of yours.
The second question is about the reflectors: did you deliberately opt for the "clipped oval" shape?
Finally, and please do not consider it as nitpicking, but rather as an helpful enquire : wouldn't the oil dipstick cap be more authentic if not painted, and shouldn't the grounding straps on the hood hinge have a different position?
Lovely engine bay, with a beautifully represented respray job as done by the Navy.
If I had to do my own jeep now, I would follow more closely the way you did yours.
For sure next time I go to the country house I will change the position of my steering wheel!

As noted....Oil Filler Tube and dipstick should be OD, not BLACK.
The Oil Filter Bracket bolted to the head should be OD, not BLACK
I THINK the gas line from tank to firewall filter should be OD, not bare metal.
As far as the location of the spoke at 12 p'clock or 6 o'clock...I read that there are some instructions for the assembly of the jeep when shipped in a crate that instruct us to put that spoke in the 6 o'clock DOWN position...
However, the steering wheel nut is one of those things the 11" Adj. can actually be used on so perhaps a jeep assigned permanently to one officer and one driver MIGHT have a slight adjustment to those instructions...
