Re: GP Rebuild in the Great Wide Open
So I started to tac the plate down, seemed pretty good at first. The wire on the Mig seemed a little erratic.A little slow at first, then too fast and back and forth.I haven't used it in almost a year. And then came other issues, tank is very thin so blow through was not a problem. After looking a little closer at the welder I noticed it's out of wire. But no sweat,i will get a new roll of wire and set the machine on the lower end for speed and heat. And put a final cap to seal everything up.Not the prettiest but that will change, with the next pass.

Re: GP Rebuild in the Great Wide Open
I have rounded up the material I will use to close up the the holes around the transfer case/transmission shifters and brake lever. Now to make a cardboard template of the shape and placement of holes.I will use 2" material for the trans-hump.Also I have to close in the brake & clutch holes,i may replace those two plates as well.I will use 1" material for those two.

Re: GP Rebuild in the Great Wide Open
This one fits better. And on to the clutch and brake pedals. The material I am using is 2" thick,so I have to cut to correct thickness before mounting.I can buy the whole incloser set for real good price, but I enjoy making my own stuff when I can!!Forward March !!

Re: GP Rebuild in the Great Wide Open
At first when I disassembled the floorboard incloseres,i had no idea the purpose of the bottom plate. But now have a better understanding of Henry Fords Method of keeping a tight seal in this area!

Re: GP Rebuild in the Great Wide Open
I think this will do nicely! I have to find the screws for the Brake Pedal to mount that one,and build the inner plate for the steering colum hole.I forgot to mention I had Gall Bladder Surgery last Monday, but have still been able to get some little things done!! Forward March!!

Re: GP Rebuild in the Great Wide Open
The trans cover needs a couple of repairs around the 4x4 sticks, and one or two repairs near the bottom. So off to the store tomorrow to get the mig wire.To continue on with the fuel tank and other repairs that may come up.

Re: GP Rebuild in the Great Wide Open
Sorry for the pause, work takes me from the house now and then.Getting setteled in, caught up on a little reading and completely forgot the brake cylinders were soaking.I will check on those here in a minute,to see if it looks like the brake fluid is doing anything.I will get back to the fuel tank Saturday, and show how that is working out.

Re: GP Rebuild in the Great Wide Open
Well the soak lasted a month and a half, with no interruptions.I pulled them out let them drain for a bit. With a few wacks from a hammer and a brass punch,on each end. Both of them freed up with no problems,I could even move the Pistons back and forth with little effort. There is some pitting in the center area, none in the area where the rubber and piston travel. But very nice shape otherwise,Picts as soon as I can figure out how to down size them.Forward March !!!!!!!!! Re: GP Rebuild in the Great Wide Open
Downsize parts Claude? If you're putting is bad, the cylinders might need to be over bored and sleeved with stainless. If the GP cyclone era are different then Jeep ones, it may be worth it.lawcdw wrote:Well the soak lasted a month and a half, with no interruptions.I pulled them out let them drain for a bit.
