Your GPW looks outstanding, Michael. And the video you and your wife made with the timelapse did turn out fantastic! A job well done on both counts. You are an inspiration to us all. It did look like you had some help putting the tub back on, however.

Re: Starting restoration on Michael's ’43 GPW.
Thanks, Zeph.
I did end up getting some help putting the tub back on. I took it off originally using a winch on the ceiling of my shop. It worked fine, but it was a little sketchy. Putting it back on, I really didn't want to risk dropping it on the freshly assembled chassis. It was nice to have a few friends over anyway.
I'm going to tweak a few things on it this morning, and then hopefully take it for a little drive with my wife this evening.

You know I'm just giving you the business. I'm still just trying to get back to working on my tub. I seem to be easily distracted during the few hours I am home per week. Have a great weekend and have fun taking her for a drive.ILikePlanesToo wrote:Thanks, Zeph.

It's supposed to be 114 degrees here tomorrow. Sounds like welding weather to me!
Take care,

Wow, Zeph. 114 degrees out? That really sounds like great welding weather!
I got the front seat cushions on earlier today. They sure look nice. They are much more comfortable than sliding around on a steel seat, too!
We just got back from a nice little drive. It went really well. The odometer now has 7.7 miles on it. I've been working on the carb a lot, so I was curious if it was still going to boil over when we got back. I gave it a little workout, so it was nice and hot. The flooding after shutdown was better, but it did still flood just enough to be hard to start after it cooled down. It looks like I still need to do a little work on that. Overall is was a nice drive though.
Have a good weekend everyone!

Fantastic result Michael, what a beauty. You won't know what to do with yourself now....another jeep perhaps?

Well, today is my GPW's 70th Birthday!
I've been doing a little tweaking to it here and there. Just little stuff like changing out some of the seat mounting screws. The new seats are really nice I think.
Maybe to celebrate its birthday, we'll take it for a little drive later.

You're so right Sutts, I totally don't know what to do with my time now.... I'm almost bored today.sutts wrote:Fantastic result Michael, what a beauty. You won't know what to do with yourself now....another jeep perhaps?
I've always been a project guy, and I love working with my hands, so I already miss working on the GPW.
I was actually thinking I might build a kit plane next. Maybe a bush plane or possible a gyrocoter...
Have a great day!

I have been following this build since December of last year! Glad it worked out. Looks great! Wish you were in the buying/selling arena!
