Zeph, would it help to put a piece of metal tube inside as an inner sleeve to strengthen the area? I might have to do the same soon with a few of my projects and was wondering if you think that would help.
Hi Oz,

I recalled that I did something like that with the '42. I found my photos of the repair I made back then:

I think I became lazy....

It looks like that would stiffen it somewhat.

Well, thank you Richard. I am happy that this thread has helped you and others out along the way. Documenting my projects helps keep me focused and motivated with the hoped added benefit of being of assistance to others.

Appears you may be very close to the '42 as it now resides near the home of the 91st Bomb Group.

Received one of Roblenzz's Willard battery boxes and painted it up for the '43. Didn't turn out too bad. Now need to think about the actual battery:

It's the Optima Red Top you need like in the link, but this is for us in the uk. Think i'm having a melt down

Hi Dave, no for the '43. i see I can get the 6 volt insert battery from Amazon. I'll probably order one when I get started on the VC, and use the current 6 volt battery in the GPW for that. Was hoping to have more time on my hands soon, but was talked into another year of work this week. Was really starting to embrace retiring! Oh well...I'll still be a weekend warrior for a bit longer.

pretty much read this thread end to end over the last few days. Great pictures and lots of practical work arounds - makes me wish the thread was around when i was doing mine.

Am also reading your dodge one. I had an ambulance a long time ago (WC54) and would really like a WC56 project.....

Am also trying to help you over the magic 100!! :D

Hi, thanks for stopping by. Happy that you find the thread helpful. That's what it's all about.

I have a WC57 project rat-holed that I can't wait to get on after the Carryall. Actually have a number of projects...just need to determine which is next. Really thinking VC1 at this point.

I have noticed this thread was getting up to the 100 page mark. I think this may be the most viewed thread on the G503. Not positive, but know it's up there. It's nice to get the feedback that it's helpful to folks out there.

Kind regards,
Zeph

Hi John

Iris has finally made it the last few miles to Bassingbourn. I was given permission by the army to get in and get some photos by the memorial. I hope I’ve posted them ok.

Hi Gordon,

Fantastic! Pictures came across well. She looks right at home there. I had heard they closed down the Tower Museum. That's a shame if so. I really wanted to get over there and visit.

I think we will be coming over to England in Sept. 2021. Hopefully this COVID issue will be somewhat resolved by then.

Thanks for posting the photos!

Kind regards,
Zeph

Yes, sadly the museum is now permanently closed due, I’m told, to accessibility issues as the base is now occupied and used by the MOD.

Well, that's a real shame for sure.

Don't remember if I had shared with you this photo. It's GPW 20104132-S in the Colorado Rockies. I had saved it years ago as it was so close the the registration number of Iris. Two digits off. Maybe Iris is right behind?
