Others badly wanted a Japanese delegation taken out to watch the first test detonation, then returned to Japan with news and film to show the emperor. I've often wondered what might have happened if that had occurred (I really doubt the Japanese military could have realized the scope of such an explosion)…
It's scary to read about people talked about with the first atom bomb. Some of the scientists were worried it would ignite the atmosphere and kill all life on the planet.
