But the Reclamation Service didn't stop at using the swastika to decorate its new bridge and dam. Rasp said the agency briefly adopted the swastika as its official logo. The swastika was also adopted by the Arizona Highways Administration for a time.
“It appeared on Arizona highway signs, much as the bear on California highway signs,” Rasp said. “It became controversial in the 1940s and was eliminated. It's too bad when people forget that most symbols have had many meanings over the years and in different cultures.”

Re: AZ Signs with Schwasticas...
In 2000, my new bride and I went on a honeymoon cruise to Alaksa.
At the docks in Juneau, the light posts had them all around the bottom. Nobody around us noticed at all, I immediately did a WTF reaction and took photos of them. A guy walked past, asked what i was shooting, then almost jumped back when I pointed them out. He said he'd lived there for years and never noticed.
I wonder if they're still there...
I bet they're the same design mentioned here: http://www.ci.glendale.ca.us/lampposts.aspx

It's such an easy design: make an 'x', then add a dash to each end.
No wonder that design is found all over (kinda like pyramids).

Re: AZ Signs with Schwasticas...
I just saw this thread, pretty interesting. I live and grew up in Glendale Ca. The street lamps in an area named the "Rossmoyne District" have a ring of swatikas around the base of them. THEY ARE however depicted in the CORRECT direction the way the First Nation People indiginous to the area 150 years ago, drew them. The symbol is a sign of Peace and Prosperity.
I'll get a couple of pics, if you guys are interested.
