Brake wheel cylinders

Post by Kurt Lesser » Sun Jul 08, 2007 3:06 pm

Do the wheel cylinders in the M151 have commercial crossovers? I looked back through some of the cross references in the forum but didn't see any listed. Napa, Bendix, Wagner, someone has to have an equivalent. If you know, could you please post it here?

Ken, got this in your files?

Thanks in advance.

Kurt, I found out that there are civvie replacements from NAPA. I do not have the numbers right off the bat but I just gave them the number that is cast into the original wheel cylinder. I did not get them because they were actually more then the ones I can get from our military suppliers!. By the way, I think they were for a Studebaker!!!!

Reviving this really old thread.

My M151A1 is in for brake maintenance and overhauling. Getting the entire system replaced/rebuilt because the master was leaking and cylinders were covered in gunk/dirt. The master and shoe kit were sort of easy to locate and order but the wheel cylinders seem to be sold in sets of 4 - 2 x 1" + 2 x 3/4". One set that I bought was labelled for use with both A1 and A2 but I understand that the A1 must be 3/4" all around?

Anyone try civilian parts? O'Reillys carries this part:
BrakeBest part # WC16535

Wondering if the OE parts that have been sitting in the warehouse too long have dried/hard boots and other non-metallic parts?

Thanks

If you do not mind going outside of the regulations you can use the one inch on the front of an A1 and it will actually be safer because it will prevent premature rear wheel lockup which in turn causes you to go sideways and after that it all goes downhill very quickly. I pout them on my A1 and shortly afterwards I had some bimbo slam on her brakes right in front of me going about 45 MPH. I had to lock up the brakes and it stopped straight as an arrow without the back brakes locking and the fronts still turning.. Just be absolutely sure you get both 1" cylinders on the front.
