Zecon Ind. Export Only Mutts, Anyway around this?

Post by tsk208@aol.com » Mon May 19, 2003 2:01 pm

I called Zecon Industries in Augusta Georgia to inquire about their ad for Export Only M151a2's. They said they have 80 on the dock waiting to go overseas and several still for sale. They told me the Mutts they sell have to be exported, apparently you have to give them an export certificate. I suppose they have an agreement with DOD that allows them to purchase them from the military as long as they do not sell them domestically. Does anyone have any insight into whether there is a way around this. Seems a shame, they belong to the US but we can't have them. Any info is appreciated.

I believe the only way to obtain one is for a static display in a museum,
otherwise it is a no-go. I don't think ZECON wants to risk any FEDERAL JAIL TIME. Been there, saw them and drooled!

is there a contact adress for this ?
I'm in Europe and if there is a cheap possibility to get hands on a MUTT I' would take it (perhaps)...

They have an ad in the June 2003 issue of Military Vehicles on page 119. You can call them at (706) 793-6730. They are located in Augusta, GA. The price is $4,500. Lucky you!

When I spoke to them they had eight decent ones available. You're best bet is to call them.

Little secret.....
I got the last 12 shhhhhhhh!!!!
For the record the DOD and the rest of the Alphabet agencies split the hair in 4 parts and investigated everything, everybody and the rest of us before release the proper papers to be exported, the buyer (my client) received a 3 hour visit/interrogation from an operative before clear the shipping and 3 months later we are still waiting for the green light. I can't disclose too much, but the country of destination is EXTREMELY FRENDLY, My client is a top professional and large collector as well as the other 10 people who bought with him, and finally all are MVPA members since at least 4 years involved in major MV events abroad. The way I see it..... if one of these mutt made to Canada and try to come back in, the feds will be on a man hunt in heart beat given the scrutiny I went thru, I think that they have more manpower and time they want us to belive....
Happy Mutting

Guatemala Mutts

Post by karoja » Mon Jul 07, 2003 2:37 pm

I have been importing new MUTTs (an other surplus vehicles) to Guatemala, and they make me suffer to get the export license! However, the US embassy down here has been vey helpful and supportive. I am required to list the owners/potential owners, with all their particular information (DOB, citizenship, etc.). After 9-11, I can´t blame them. I would also never sell a MUTT to anybody with re-export ideas.

So, if you want a new 1979 MUTT, move down into the tropics. By the way, I found out recently that the last year of production of the M151A2 was 1986, with a large lot of MUTTs being produced for Pakistan.

I have a zecon 151A2 - I’m finally getting ready to sell it if you might happen to know anybody interested in a Museum type vehicle.
Thx
