M151a2 Fuel tank mounting bolts

Post by m270mlrs2 » Thu Aug 25, 2022 4:19 am

Good morning on my M151a2 the 4 bolts that hold the fuel tank to the body, 3 of the nuts are stripped. The I am not sure how to replace what ever it is they fasten to. I was going to try to use my tap and die set to maybe re thread them because I don't think I can get a new nut in the gap where its mounted. Thanks for any advice or tips. I don't like the idea of just one bolt holding the tank on.

Drill out the old fasteners and install RivNuts to mount the tank. The military typically used nuts and bolts to mount things but RivNuts are a permanantly installed nut that makes installing things easier. Especially in tight spaces or where access to the nut location is restricted. There are special tools used to install them but it can be done with a bolt and a couple of nuts. There are good You Tube videos about using them.

Ok cool thanks for the info I found one of these Rivnut kits on Amazon. It doesn’t look to hard to use and it was under 40.00.
