Removing Bumoeerettes from my M151A2
I tried to remove the bumperettes from my 1969, M151A2. I broke off one of the bolt heads. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Those can be tricky because the nuts are enclosed, has your A2 had the corrosion treatment where they drill holes in the body rails?, if so, you may be able to spray a little penetrant in there. If not, you may try shocking the head of the bolt with a hammer, if you can break them loose a little, start applying penetrant. Maybe an impact wrench with short burst of shocks, you will need a good wiggle tail for that. If you break them loose, work them in and out with penetrant, don't try to back them straight out. If you feel they won't come out, you might consider putting a little heat on the bolt, it will take a minute to get the bolt hot down in the threads, don't try to back them out cherry red. Worse case, you could cut the bolt head off and weld a nut on the stud, back out while hot.

One way to remove a tough bolt like that, was to drill a hole right dead center and all the way through.
And here was the Secret part. Get a LEFT handed tap and tap the hole.
Then thread a left handed hardened bolt into the the hole. As you tighten the left handed bolt, the problem bolt will come right out.

Also drill it with a left handed drill. And yes, there is such a thing.

I was under the impression the bumperette was still attached, be hard to drill that hole.

Good point! What about with a 90 degree angle drill and a ground down short bit? Or for that matter you could get in there and grind off the head of the bolt to remove the bumperette and then either grind or weld on a nut for a new bolt head. I am thinking if this is a captured nut then twisting too hard will break the nut loose and then you are in trouble. Better to drill successively bigger until you just get to the threads and then carefully run a tap in and out to cut out the old threads.
